My oldest friend (in terms of how long I have known her) is having her first grandson next month. Here is the finished quilt top. I was going to add another border (red) but after I put the blue one on, the quilt said it was finished

Any suggestions on how to quilt it? I'm thinking of hand quilting as I can do a better job at that as opposed to machine quilting.....

How big are the red stars approx? I think I'd start with quilting a ¼" echo around them and then see what else it needs. I really like the way the blue star forms in the background. I agree the blue border is nice & maybe bind it with the red?

The star blocks are each 12" with the border at 3" (finished). I have enough of the blue fabric for the backing. And the red would be cute for the binding and echo quilting is maybe all it needs....Thanks! :D

Sometimes I tend to "over think" things....

Sewjoyce...what a pretty little quilt for a new GB. Love the star around the star. I also think echo is the way to go.

Maybe just good old tying off in the corners of the blocks. I just love how a quilt talks to you and it all comes together.

SulaBug 08-13-2009 11:24 PM

Elsie 08-14-2009 03:22 PM

very good i also would stitch a 1/4 in a way enjoy hand quilting this like to see the result after done

Harmony 08-14-2009 03:45 PM

I love the footprint quilting idea, and I think a red binding would finish this off perfectly! Well done!

tarib 08-15-2009 04:56 AM

Good thinking to leave it at the one border. I did one similar to that and put a small first border in red, a second in blue, and should have stopped there because I put a third in the lighter color I used and hated it. I ended up putting a small blue binding after that and said "good enough".

Yours is very cute.

Iluv2quilt 08-15-2009 05:05 AM

Great quilt! It looks great with just the one border. You do nice work, he's going to love it.

bearisgray 08-15-2009 05:48 AM

The blue making a big friendship star is a great design feature. Cleverly done!

Thank you -- But I can't take the credit. I had a small picture of one that was done like that from Quilters Cache (http://www.quilterscache.com/F/Frien...ock_Page2.html) and I just thought it was neat. I had to do one block at a time, sew them together and compare them to the picture. Had to do a little unsewing to get them correct. My granddaughter thought it was great fun to line up the blocks for me and she was really a big help :D
