Warning ... I am not good at tutorials, so girls this is not a tutorial, just a scanned picture of the original pattern I used. Hopefully you know the basic way of putting together a stuffed toy. For really this is how I made this one. I cut out the patterns while they were folded in half. The legs are without a seam allowance, because I pin the pattern to the fabric and sew around it leaving an opening for turning and then I cut it out with the allowances, clipping the curves and V's pretty close. Then I did the embroidery hand work which you can see in the picture The eyes are felt, one larger as the background and one smaller for the pupil. Then I sewed the body leaving the openings I indicated on the pattern to insert the legs and turning. I creased the turned in seam allowance where the legs are to match front and back.
The legs are all one piece and padded with a cut to size piece of warm and white batting and then once turned and pressed, the details are sewn by machine to add the webbed feet and the outlined legs. They then are inserted after the body is turned and the head is partially stuffed, but you could cut two legs and sew them to the body that way if you wish. I then stuffed the rest of the frog and hand sewed up the legs on either side to close up the frog. I know if the legs are sewn into the seam and a opening left somewhere else on the frog, it would be so much less work. But, this was a make up as I went kinda thing, remember? I cut the lily pad like a fat heart and two pieces of warm and natural. put the fabric right sides together, and the batting on the outside of each one and sewed around, leaving and opening for turning. Trimmed the batting only away from the seams and turned it right-side out. I used a large holed funnel to pour in the flax seed and stitched it closed. This makes it feel soft still and the fabric is smooth and reinforced. I then hand stitched the frog onto the lily pad at the feet and all around the bottom. I used a purchased iron on flower at the front end for decoration. That's it .... you now have a frog to share with your friends. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THESE FROGS TO SELL OR TRY TO SELL THE PATTERN EITHER. Please share your froggy with us on the quiltingboard when yours is finished. I would love to see what you do with my design. And here is the scanned pattern. Sorry it is so crude. But I warned you! LOL.
Use the circles on the pattern to make your circles for the eyes and the arms can be more curved, which is what I did. See the picture for what I am talking about. |
adorable! I love him!
Pattern on page five....
What a very cute idea - I'm sure your swap partner will love it.
I would love to have the pattern.
Thats so cute ............... :D
Thanks RedGarnet. I copied your pattern, directions and the cute original. I love it.
You are so welcome murphy. I am here if anyone needs clarification of the terrible instructions. LOL.
I suggest you read it all though first, I might have put the instructions out of context to the order they are to be put together. And you may have a better way of doing the little guy. Sorry again for the mess everyone. I am so terrible at this, that is why I have never done a tute before. I will say I used a rounded end chop stick to turn the little feet and a tiny stitch length to sew him up. |
He is sew cute.
Lucky swap partner! I love it!!!
I agree with everyone, this is by far the cutest frog pincushion I have seen. Thanks for the pattern.
You must share your pattern. 99.9 of us aren't your lucky swap partner LOL!! I love the little guy
THANKS so much for sharing the pattern. Can't wait to have times to make a bunch as christmas gifts
Really cute! Great job in your design!
Thank you so much for sharing your pattern. I think it's great as well as your instructions.
About how tall is your little guy? |
When you print out the pattern you will get a good idea of his heigth, pam. I suppose it will depend on how much seed you put into the lily pad how tall he will be. But he isn't real tall. But I am thinking the lily pad will be the pin cushion and needs to be fat.
I wish I had measured him before I sent him to Lynnie. Maybe she would measure him for us. You know us creative people, we are kinda spacey sometimes. Sorry I didn't realize I was going to share the pattern with anyone. The page of the patterns is on a regular sheet of copy paper with a piece of tissue behind him to make the pattern show up better. I am not sure why the page seems so long. I am so very happy to share my pattern with you all. Enjoy and please show us yours when it is finished. OK ? |
That is so cute
He's too cute.
Sooooooo cute. Can't wait for your pattern. What is the best stuffing for a pincushion?
Hi granniesan,
The pattern is on page five of this thread along with the instructions. I used flax seed in my pincushion. |
This is perfect. He is a frog with personality!

I had so much fun making this pin cushion for a swap partner. I made up the pattern as I went, but I think he is as cute as can be. The lily pad is filled with flax seed. (I use it in my neck rolls that you heat in the oven. It only take 30 seconds in the microwave to heat those up and last for a half hour of heat.)
I thought you girls might enjoy seeing it. |
