Froggy

I'd like to introduce you to my Froggy quilt...

First a bit of a story. This quilt began as a round robin with a small group of quilters who met online back in 1999. Each person made their center block. Mines a block of the month club I was in from Piecemakers in Costa Mesa. I got a block a month, fabric and pattern. I loved frogs back then (FROG=Fully Rely on God) and had a rubber stamp a friend made for me, I used it on all my mail. I made the block then wanted to take it off point and hand appliqué the jumping frogs. That’s my center.

The “block” was then mailed to the first person. I enclosed gifts for each person and a commemorative book that each person signed into and wrote all their notes and some personal history. I still have the book, it’s very special to me now.

The quilt went to just four others and I’m sure you agree, is extraordinary. I was blessed with some very talented quilters. In the photos you’ll see, Hand appliqué vines, bargello, pieced and even 3-D fun, yum throughout. I just love it, it’s so me, so much talent went into this quilt.

Put away, fast forward 20 years...

The quilt top was waiting for another extremely talented quilter. This time a long arm quilter to do the actual quilting-sewing the top, batting and back together. This part needs loads of photos as Susan did an amazing job on this quilt. I just wanted it done, she went wild and made a work of heart. There’s leaves in the tree, veins in the leaves, fronds in the water, grass spikes, turtle shell is now segregated just like a real turtle. Did she stop at plenty? Oh no! She somehow got this big quilt into her embroidery machine and made motifs of turtles, butterflies, feathers, and sprig if oaks. More decorative accents are on the tree trunk and throughout. And still she didn’t stop. Then she and her DD hit the hit fix Swarovski crystals which went into the embroidered turtles! Girls are amazing! I’m very blessed. And gobsmacked, it’s a work of art that I’m taking to my next infusion. That is,,, if I can get it bound.

On to the binding. I didn’t have the right type and color of fabric. Can’t short change this puppy (froggy) now, so I pulled two yards from my dye bolt, dyed it overnight. Added detailing today and hope to get it bound in time to take to my next infusion.

What a quilt!

Here's the turtle with frond embroidery my LA did on the quilt. You can see the crystals here.

and leaves on the tree. Totally went wild with this and used her imagination... as did every single quilter before her who worked on this quilt. Start to finish it is such an amazing creation.

Cute quilt! I don’t know what the postal rates are for others but it cost me $5 to mail 1- 5 inch square of fabric about 5 years ago. I save my money fir fabric.

you can mail a 5" square of fabric in a 6" x 7 or 8" bubble envelope for much less than $5. You can even put a piece of cereal box cardboard in to help prevent wrinkles and not increase the postage by much .
