Fund raising quilt top

1 Attachment(s)
My 17 year old daughter finished her quilt top this morning and I get to quilt it. She's raising $ for her service club at school and will have a drawing for those who contribute to the cause. I'm very proud of her. It's been a great effort.
any suggestions for quilting?

GingerK 04-10-2021 01:43 PM

No suggestions for quilting but just had to say Wow!! That is a beauty! I love everything about it! Your daughter is very talented.

granky 04-10-2021 02:02 PM

Love that top! *SIGH* .... my bucket runneth over......

Chantal 04-10-2021 02:36 PM

Absolutely stunning!

kristijoy 04-10-2021 02:39 PM

This is gorgeous! I sure hope that she raises some good money! My suggestion would be big spirals or a loopy spiral (essentially...spiral into the center, then bounce out and start another spiral - as opposed to spiraling in and then spiraling out)

Karamarie 04-10-2021 03:00 PM

Wow, that is pretty awesome. You can be very proud of her.

peaceandjoy 04-10-2021 04:01 PM

Holy cow! That is amazing! So.... Your daughter is in HS and made this? That's fantastic.

This looks like a NY Beauty variation? I've no suggestions for the quilting, but maybe if you look online at other NYB quilts, you would get some ideas?

I'm sure her fundraiser will be a success.

pocoellie 04-10-2021 04:02 PM

WOW!!! It's absolutely gorgeous!!!

mcadwell 04-10-2021 04:19 PM

My goodness, she did a fantastic job!

Jingle 04-10-2021 04:21 PM

mage did a great job. It’s a beautiful quilt! Hope it does a well!

Fantastic quilt top! Maybe have her go over some pictures of quilting designs. Are you using a long arm or your sewing machine? If you are using your sewing machine, I might just stitch in the ditch the top design as not to distract from the piecing. If using a long arm, I might pick a design that has circles little ripples on water.

thepolyparrot 04-10-2021 05:23 PM

Wow, she's very talented! The quilt is gorgeous and I hope it raises a lot of money.

Gorgeous quilt

nature lover 04-10-2021 06:03 PM

Excellent job! Love the colors and "movement" of the quilt

jmoore 04-11-2021 03:44 AM

I don’t have any suggestions as far as how to quilt it but I just wanted to congratulate your daughter on her work and her goal for raising money. What a creative project.

clwetzel 04-11-2021 04:34 AM

Wow, that is stunning. I would think about continuous curves on the cross seams of the pinwheels so it looks like flower petals. A flourish at the center of the NYB block with SID around the the narrow bands and spikes. In the corner piece I would do a half feather to fill. First I would draw it out with a dry erase marker on a big piece of vinyl or plastic placed over the quilt to see if I like it. I tried to draw it out on a picture of the quilt, but my drawing ability on my computer just stinks.

toogie 04-11-2021 04:45 AM

Congratulations to your daughter! Her piecing is excellent. Love the colors/fabrics too. I hope she raises a good sum of money for her club. Good luck dear!-Toogie

Homespun 04-11-2021 05:31 AM

Wow, quite an accomplishment for a 17 year old!

Abashobbes 04-11-2021 06:03 AM

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments. Yes my daughter is a junior in HS. This is her third club fundraiser and it is quite a step up from her other two. When she was 14 we went to a quilt show in Chicago during her spring break and took three days of classes learning paper piecing, curved seams and just had a blast sewing together! So she took this kit/pattern and "went to town" on it. The kit was one I got from the old Craftsy website. I bought many from them once they were on clearance. Their boundless fabrics are really nice. I 'directed' her cutting as I wanted to make sure she didn't run out of fabric but she insisted on doing it all herself. Yes I'm very proud of her!

clwetzel.... thanks for your suggestions. I'm quilting "free-hand" on my long arm. I was thinking continuous curves and feathers as you suggested. I don't know what a "flourish" is.... please explain. Wow...I hope I can do my daughter justice with the quilting part! Anita

You have a very talented daughter. I hope it brings big $$$.

sewingitalltogether 04-11-2021 06:16 AM

Beautiful quilt! And she is 17. Wow, a great start on a quilting and sewing life.

juliasb 04-11-2021 08:25 AM

What an exciting quilt! Circles that intertwine with one another and spiral throughout the quilt may be a great way to go. The only other thing would be to do a real custom SITD or something very similar.

audsgirl 04-11-2021 06:07 PM

Congratulations to your daughter! That is a fabulous quilt top. I would think just a simple all-over design would be best so as not to distract from the design. Great job!

Can I purchase a ticket for this? It's beautiful!

wesing 04-12-2021 03:43 AM

Your daughter did a fantastic job on her quilt! I wish I had a suggestion for quilting.

tallchick 04-12-2021 03:51 AM

Wow, she did an excellent job, I hope it raises lots of money. I am sure you are beyond proud of her it is fantastic!

EmiliasNana 04-12-2021 05:13 AM

You have to be beyond proud of your daughter and her accomplishments. This quilt is stunning and sure to bring top price at the auction. Her piecing is spot on and her curved piecing is something I still haven't tried. Congratulate her from all of us.

nanac 04-12-2021 05:30 AM

Phenomenal job, and from a young person at that! I've been quilting for 30+ years, and that is more intricate than anything I've ever tried. Hope whoever buys it appreciates the time and talent that it took to accomplish this

materialworld 04-12-2021 07:46 AM

Wowsers! Your daughter did an awesome job on her quilt. I would think the simpler the quilting the more her design would stand out.

Jordan 04-12-2021 07:50 AM

Gorgeous quilt and I hope she makes lots of money for her efforts. She did a beautiful job on the quilt

cjsews 04-13-2021 05:22 AM

Such a wonderful job she did. Look how the points in the pinwheels come together. And sewing curves so nice and smooth. This should bring a pretty penny for her

I drew out what I call a flourish. I hope the picture attaches.

RedGarnet222 04-13-2021 09:14 AM

You are a talented teacher! I am sure she will be happy however you quilt it. Does she have any ideas on the quilting? Perhaps if you involve her, she will learn that part too.

Abashobbes 04-13-2021 10:04 AM

Thanks so much for that picture clwetzel. I like that!

Yes if anyone would like to take a chance and donate to the cause... she's raising money for Schools for children of the World. The link to the website is here.
https://donate.schoolsforchildren.or...8836af780de810

Every $10 donation allows an entry into the drawing for the quilt.

Thanks.
Anita
