I made a game/picnic quilt, and what fun they are to make!
The front is for checkers, the back you can play either connect 4 or tic tac toe. I simply made binding strips and sewed them down for the connect 4 grid. I took a corner in that grid and sewed decorative stitches in a contrasting color to mark out part of the grid for tic tac toe.

For the first time I ventured past stitching in the ditch and made wavy lines all over. It was a great learning project for me. Sorry for the horrible pics, specially of the back. The grid shows up much better in real life.

Yes I did. I put a different color on the flip sides so there are actually 4 colors to choose from when playing. To make things easier, I cut out a circle from card stock, stuck a scrap piece of flannel on one side with glue stick. Put the circle flannel side down onto the fabric and sewed around it (just off the edge of it, using it as a guide). This gave me a template to sew the circles without having to draw them all out. The flannel helped the circle "grip" the fabric and kept it from shifting around. I also sewed a drawstring bag to carry the game pieces.

I can't take credit for the pattern/idea. I believe I saw this either here or on Pinterest. It inspired me. It's also a great way to use up scraps! The squares are about 5", but really you could make it any size.

Thanks so much for your kind words everyone!
