This little quilt was still yardage yesterday afternoon. I started cutting it out after work yesterday. Got it pieced by midnight. Today after work pinned the back to it, "quilted" it - it's a summer quilt so no batting - and machine stitched the binding.

Easy pattern, no batting, and all machine sewing makes for a very fast quilt. My son has been saying that my grandson's current quilt is too hot for summer so .. 4th birthday tomorrow - fabric in my stash that will work - instant quilt!

Well, I'm sure it's a case of "different strokes for different folks". I so enjoy these fast little projects. Now that school is out and I have a bit more time I have some projects planned that will be more traditionally done, but for now ... this works.

That really cute! Fast too! Never done one without batting. Not too thin.? Do u back with fleece or flannel?

Note that I live in Texas - already having 100 degree days. They can be backed with anything, but I back mine with sheets. Sometimes use nicer fabric, but recently - sheets.

A summer quilt has a nice heft to it - not too flimsy - just right for a little cover on a hot night - even with our ever-present air conditioning. Good for naps, too! :) They also fold smaller than a quilt. I keep one under the seat in my van.

This one was made with 3 yards of fabric - it's a generous lap size. Had to piece the outer border on top and bottom so probably around 48X52 or so. Just right for a 4-year-old to curl up with.

More than anything... I bet he likes it!!! I bet you made his day!!

He is going to love it. Even with 100 degrees already in Houston, the knees can get a bit chilly in the air conditioning!

He will love this quilt. So much to look at in the fabrics.

I love how you folks say 'Instant Quilt' -there are no such words in my language. I have been looking at one hanging here for a week now that still needs 5 more strips on it. Today I go to the dump, then clean the barn, then weed flower beds, then water garden ...and there goes another day. I've been looking at it at night and been too tired after work. Possibly Sunday afternoon? Let's hope.

Gave grandson his quilt at his 4-year-old birthday party on Saturday. Later in the day my mother - his great-grand-mother - was laying on the couch and asked the birthday boy if he would get her a pillow. He got the pillow AND his new quilt for her. Awwwww. Perfect for sharing, huh?

Instant quilt -- maybe not really "instant", but when start to finish it takes less time than the binding takes me on a more traditional quilt - that's instant to me! :)

Love your quilt but the wheel fabric got my attention, where did you find that one, it is just so cute.

JanTx 06-06-2011 08:46 PM

I got it from an online quilt shop that was going out of business. It's Clothworks/Diggers and Dozers/Yellow Multi Tire. One site that carries it is:

That little guy will love it!
It's nice that you could whip it up so fast!
