Right about the time I was on maternity leave, my boss "decided" to take early retirement. After my son was born, I became a stay-at-home mom, only working one day a week. But, my former boss and I still talk, at the very least, once a week. He was going through his things at home, knows I'm a quilter, and offered some of his grandmother's quilts to me. He is an only child, no cousins, no children. I felt kind of bad taking hiss family heirlooms, but he said it makes him happy to know that the quilts will be used and loved. Here is the one that he gave me so far! I feel so lucky.

Cool! What a lovely former boss/friend. Don't feel guilty. I can imagine the relief he probably feels knowing his gran's work is appreciated.

I must be tired because at first I thought there was a rip in the quilt but once my eyes focused I realized it was a cat. LOL!! It is a very nice quilt and awefully nice of him to offer it to you.

Oh my gosh I'd be thrilled to pieces. I know lots of people that have heirlom quilts and wouldn't dream of sharing them. He is a special friend! That is so wonderful!

That is so wonderful for both of you. My husband has recieved some planes for woodworking from a man in a similar position. He just wants to know his dad's stuff is loved and taken care of and not just sold to the highest bidder.

That is a lovely quilt! What a special gift. I know how you feel though. One of the ladies at work gave me a thimble that was her mothers. I had admired her thimble collection but certainly didn't want to take one! She kept at me until I chose one. I love it and will treasure it always, but I did feel "bad" too. I guess that's because we treasure these things so very much.

He obviously thinks a lot of you, and feels comforted knowing the quilts have someone to love and take care of them and appreciate them for the work, tradition and beauty. BTW what's my cat doing on your quilt? I thought she was just sitting in my lap.

Hey it looks to me like you already have a taker for this one!

Jingle 01-26-2011 06:54 PM

Beautiful quilt and you are so lucky to get them. He would rather someone he knows get them than a stranger or strangers.
