Just in case I run out of quilts to make, a past co-worker and good friend brought me a gift today. She had been to an estate sale and found 37 Dresdan plate blocks as appliqued and ready to be joined into a top and quilted. the blocks are 17" square and made of 1930 type prints. Cant wait il i have a few other projects out of my hair so i can see what these beauties will loom like when quilt is finished.

What a great friend!! I would love that gift. Can you imagine putting together all those Dresden plates and having them end up in an estate sale!!! I better finish all the projects I gave going so they don't end up at a sale. Hope you show us the finished quilt soon!!

What a wonderful gift, can't wait to see how you finish the quilt. I make quilts for our family reunions every 2 years and one year I made a Dresden Plate in beautiful blue fabrics sent to me by my family. My pickiest brother, who also happened to win the quilt told me it was my best quilt ever and it would be hard to top it. I'm thinking of making one for my DS and DD IL for their king size quilt, but need to find out if I have the colors right for the bedroom they just repainted.

Karen G 04-20-2014 07:38 AM

Beautiful blocks, a photo when it is finished, please.

I was very new to quilting when I saw a basket of hand-quilted Dresden plates. I was too intimidated to buy them at the time, and now I could kick myself. I have pictured a sweet little farm lady who just hadn't had the time to make them into a quilt before she passed on. (I make up stories like that regularly) :-).

coopah 04-20-2014 03:15 PM

What a beauty you'll have when they're stitched together. Enjoy!

KSue 04-20-2014 03:42 PM
