Giraffe quilt
3 Attachment(s)
I just finished binding my dgd giraffe quilt for her b-day. She has had a disney princess quilt since she was 4, and told her mom (my dd) "no offense, but I have outgrown the princess quilt" so they had to get a throw for her bed when friends come over...she still wants to sleep with it, just not display it for her grown up 9yr old friends! So....she doesn't know it is coming, but I think it turned out nice. When I was describing it to her mom, she asked if it had turquoise in it....No, this was animal prints and has a soft pink batik to match her walls.....better add turquoise, cause that's the fav color right now. Oh, boy! rethink and do a little creative piecing on the "piano key" border, and voila, turquose!
There are several embroidered squares and several fussy cut squares with lots and lots of strips of giraffe prints from things I have made her in the past. I think she will have fun identifying some skirts and dresses and nities~ |
That is very nice. I especially like the piano key border. She is going to love it.

Looks perfect for a big girl. I like how the corners of your border are, have to remember as I do lot of piano key borders on my scrappies.

Thanks to all for your kind comments! I don't follow patterns, just make it up as I go along, so I am never sure what I will end up with. I had never done blocks on point, so wasn't prepared for the stretchy that I encountered, thank goodness I remembered "baggy on the bottom" and boy does that work well! I also remembered to measure for the inner borders instead of just sewing til I ran out of fabric, lol. That helped immensely to square it all up. I love the scrappy look, and I was really happy that a friend suggested the piano keys. The printed, fussy cut final border was JUST enough to finish the sides and the bottom, so I will do a pillow sham for the top to finish the set.
