First of all conratulations to your DGD for making such a beautiful quilt for her first one. It looks like she di an excellent job!
I have that pattern and was just looking at it again today trying to figure out what i needed yet to be able to start making it. This past spring I found some beautiful 100% cotton dress fabric in a couple large prints and some smaller ones in torquoise, whites and blacks and browns. It was on sale and beautiful and 60inches wide. I bought one large print and a couple small ones. I still need some more prints to go with it. So it won't look exactly like your DGD's but hopefully it will be pretty. My 11 year old DGD looks at quilt patterns and ideas that I've collected and then takes a post-it not and writes her name on it so that I'll make it for her. She put a big#1 on this patter so I suppose I'll have to give it to her. Maybe I should let her help me make it.

Incredible! I am totally impressed. Did she sit at your feet while you sewed, since the day she was born? This is a major achievement!

She's SOOOO proud of it! She even slept in it before I could get a good picture!

on edit: I forgot to mention...the quilt is a kit called Park Place from Pine Tree Country Quilts. Designed by Deborah Mosa. It was on the front cover of the May 2010 issue of The Quilter Magazine. :-D

Nope! not at all. She lives 3 hrs away! She came during spring vacation and I insisted she try to sew a pillow case. She got so excited she made 6 of them before she left. I asked her if she wanted to do a quilt....she did. she picked out the pattern -- and since it's a kit, we didn't have to futz with what fabric to buy.

Kas 09-08-2010 06:07 PM

She did a fabulous job! How old is she? I hope she realizes how lucky she is to have a grandma who will teach her how to quilt. My dad's mom died 28 years ago and I am just now finding out she was a quilter. In fact, my mom sent me the quilt she made for my dad when he was born.

This is beautiful!! What an accomplishment for a "first" quilt!!! I'm on number 7 and wouldn't attempt this one! Unless gramma came to help me!!!

Alondra 09-08-2010 06:16 PM

That's a first quilt?? That is one talented little granddaughter you have there. Congratulations to her!

Annz 09-08-2010 06:22 PM

Oh that is very nice and a great start for more quilts to come. Maby even one for grandma???

wraez 09-08-2010 06:48 PM

That is a great first quilt, not what I would call quick and easy. That is a LARGE quilt for a novice. Your Granddaughter is entitled to be very proud of her accomplishment!

Can't wait to see what she makes next.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

Encourage this gal. She has did a fantastic job and I can see where she will become an awesome quilter. Watch out Grandma, she might just love your stash. But as I tell my grand daughters "Greandma has lots to spare".
