These are the first quilt blocks that my dgd pieced. She is making her first quilt for quilts for kids.

Thank you. She started sewing at 4...I had her make a tote bag sewing by hand. At 5 she got her first sewing machine (it only worked for one project before it died) This is her first quilt project.

She did a great job. Hope she sticks with the sewing and quilting, I can't wait to be able nto teach my granddaughter, she's 20 months at the moment. So nice to see kids getting into the fiber arts and family teaching them.

I'm happy to see that another young granddaughter has a sewing machine! My 6 year old g.d. got one for Christmas, but it was a very cheap "imitation" of a sewing machine, so I bought her a low-end Brother. She hasn't made any quilts yet, but she's made her grown-up cousin a purse and her little sister a pair of shorts!!!

Cathy, she has always liked the fiber arts. She is active in Medieval Recreation and has learned three ways to weave, how to spin using a drop spinal, how to knit, crochet, and sew. I begin teaching her how to sew when she was 4 ( she made a tote bag by hand stitching using the running stitch) At 5 she was given a Simplicity Sew Precious sewing machine and made another tote bag to learn how to use her machine. At 6 she made a pair of shorts. She has stated that her next project is to learn lace making ( all styles :D) She has declared herself as a "Fiber Arts Specialist" ha ha

What a good job she is doing, and I almost envy you. I wanted a granddaughter to pass down some of my crafting skills to, and I got two kick-boxing grandsons. I love them, but to say they have no interest in knitting, crochet or quilting is a huge understatement.

Oh!! She is doing great! Make sure you get lots of pictures before you send it off!

My grandma also taught me to sew. I was sewing Barbie clothes and embroidering at 5 years old. And that left me with a lifelong love of sewing. Kudos to you for taking the time to do this!
