Nice to hear from you - I am so impressed with your projects as the last garment I tried to sew had an arm inside out and upside down, in 12th grade. Most of the girls were working on their wedding dresses! Pathetic
efforts indeed.

Now, in asking around about this pattern, I found that this pattern has been passed around and that the easiest way to sew it was to put it together like a bargello quilt. Sew strips and cut and sew strips into rounds then open seams or unsew and stagger seams so that one fabric is above or below (whatever) the previous seam. I haven't seen the pattern yet but have bought yellow and blue fabrics to make it. Tho it may end up in the UP's I would love to give it a try but cannot find anyone here who knows anyone w/pattern. To date my 1 by 3 flying geese quilt has been the most difficult (queen size) groan.

What I notice about your work is the absolute and total precision at your seam intersections which is what I think you mean about a lot of work?
Am I right? Sounds like I will need all my pins!

I have been looking for this pattern since i took a class in arizona 3 years ago. the class didn't provide information for finishing. I don't even have a photo to go buy to finish it. would love to have any help. thanks, Annette

First I would contact instructor but barring that, I have written
directions from three different people. They are all done by
hand and I have never found "real" directions for this quilt.

I have found the quilt sizes to be one row under size stated.

I only have 6 blocks sewn together but finished the rest be4
Turkey Day confused by same issue. I will try to find them and figure out which directions are which and see if I have any answers. I think they were really short on finishing, like non
existant.

Don't despair, I know a woman who is working on her second
GD quilt. She is in Arizona for the next few months but I can
get directions from her when she comes home. Meanwhile
maybe check out your size to see if you need more blocks to fit bed.

I understand the block was designed by a guild member down there and they did a block exchange with a number of other groups. Anyhow, I won't forget, promise. Cindy

I am from
scottsdale, Az and that is where I got the instruction class. The shop has since closed and have found prior shop ownner who is having health issues and has moved to michigan. I can follow a picture to get the blocks together. I was shocked that the instructor became "dumb" when we asked for a picture and instructions for finishing the blocks to complete the project.
If you need some help, I have 25 blocks which are huge. Oh so lovely made of florals. I paid good money to take the class and am still wondering why the secrecy. It was a commercial pattern and I believe the instructor had the book , but would not tell the class anything about it. Annette

My GD quilt is waiting to be picked up again--the girls in our guild that finished their quilts framed each block and set them on point and also used the Betty Cotton method of quilting as you go. I asked for photos of the finished quilts but I think my friend forgot to email them---she's forgiven---she was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first grandchild and sewing before the due date.
Our guild exchanged strip sets to make our quilts.
I hope you finish yours--no matter how they are set they turn out gorgeous. Don't give up on it!! JS

Good to hear from you. Bless your little heart for telling me about the Quilting Board. Your blocks were the inspiration I believe for a number of quilts being made. Your colors are the best I have seen, so beautifully graduated from light lights to dark light and light dark to dark dark. Woof.

Cindy, the method you are stating is indeed bargello. I have the dimensions of strips(i took notes) and method. I don't remember sewing into circles, but we did a lot of stitching and un stitching. I can share pix of the individual blocks if you would like. The illustration quilt was , I believe, set on point and I made enough for a generous queen quilt. Annette
