Grandmother's Fan Birthday Quilt
3 Attachment(s)
My late paternal grandmother hand and machine-pieced this Grandmother's Fan quilt top. I can easily envision the work that went into this beauty. My parents offered to have it quilted for me as a birthday present, and it's probably one of the best presents I have ever received. I wanted to quilt it myself, but I didn't think I would ever be confident enough to do it, especially not something to so precious.
The quilting is done with Baptist Fan, and I was a little unsure of it when the quilter suggested it, but I could not be happier! |
Lucky you! It's a beautiful quilt and it seems the Baptist Fan is the perfect quilting design for it! Treasure it!

Thats a really nice memory... I love the eyelet trm, gives it a nice lacy lookwithout the fragile lace.

I am so very blessed to have as many memories with her as I do.. and to have spent so much time with her. She crocheted and sewed, and taught my sister and I how to do both. I wouldn't pick up a crochet needle to save my life, and my sister hates the thought of sewing. Go figure. :)

A treasure you will keep a long time and pass down.

Thank you all so much. I know I should get it out and use it, because that's what she would have wanted, but I just can't make myself do anything but stare at it in its little clear bag. :)

Am friend of mine, just moved her parents to a nursing home. They have been cleaning out the house and have come across several old quilts. She said they were made by her great grandmother, but that the children didn't even know they existed. Her mother kept them stored away and never used them. That is such a pity. They have spent their lives in a box instead of being enjoyed.

Beautiful quilt and quilting! My grandmother hand pieced quilts, and Baptist Fan quilting was one of her favorite quilting designs. I think it complements your quilt perfectly....old time quilt pattern paired with old time quilting design. Thanks for sharing :)
