I posted a few pictures of my first English Paper Piecing flower from scraps a few weeks back. I got the idea to use a jelly roll to make flowers! I've had this jelly roll for about a year and had no idea what to do with it - it's the fabric line Odyssea by Momo. I've cut up each strip into squares and am starting to baste the hexies.

I'm using a fabric by Jim Shore for the center, and for the ring around each hexagon is going to be a white on white paisley. I don't want huge flowers, so I'm only doing the one ring (6 hexies) around the center, then there will be the white on white.

The first ever hexies made from scraps and will be into a totally scrappy GFG quilt

My "finished" flowers kit - it held a cloth book for my 2 year old.

I got a bunch of 3x3 baggies from my moms garage - each one has 6 of the same basted hexagon in it to be made into flowers

I love it! You are doing great!

Jennifer22206 04-25-2011 11:04 AM

thank you so much! :) This is really fun - I get to take it everywhere with me. I basted a ton of hexies in the car ride my mom, DH, DD and I took that was 2.5 hours one way! I think this is going to be one of those for me only quilts.

Great job....love all your fabrics and colors.

Great Job! Someday I'm going to try this. Love your blocks!

Jennifer22206 04-25-2011 11:11 AM

oh you should! I've been afraid of it for so long, but I've found that it's a ton easier than it looks!

WOW!! Your flowers are so cute!!
Looks very time consuming!

Jammin' Jane 04-25-2011 11:17 AM

WOW! You're on a roll now!
Sure makes a long car ride go fast!

caliquocat 04-25-2011 11:17 AM

You are off to a great start! Lovely fabrics, it will make a unique quilt.

Jennifer22206 04-25-2011 11:21 AM

Thanks! I love the Jelly Roll idea, I know everything will match! :)

Each of the flowers takes me about an hour from basting to putting into the 6 together. Adding the center takes another 20/30 minutes. I don't even think I want to know how much time is going to go into this quilt, but I am keeping a journal

hey, those are going to be really nice!

I think I am doing my all wrong after seeing the way so many of ya are doing yours. :-( I know there are no Quilt Police here but am really curious about this now.
Ya guys make the ring then attach it to the center. I add each petal to the center and then sew up the seams for the ring. Is there a reason for making the ring first then adding the center? Does it lay better or something? I have about 60 flowers done and have noticed that some of them do wobble a bit here and there but just figured it would work itself out. I also think these will be a forever UFO as I am making them with 2" hexies. I want to start one with smaller hexies but want to do it right.

Jennifer22206 04-25-2011 11:49 AM

I don't think there is a right or wrong way, only what works for you!

PJisChaos 04-25-2011 12:04 PM

I must say thanks a ton for this post!!! I have a jelly roll and matching FQs and a charm pack as well that I have absolutely no clue what to do with and this would be so perfect!! It is all pastel spring colors and a GFG would be so fitting. So, I will take a break from cutting down my scraps for the scrap savers system and start cutting hexies instead. Hubby and I have a full week next week of drs and dentist appts, everyday, so this will def. be the project to bring. thank you, thank you, thank you!! ^_^

Can't figure out how to edit my previous post, sorry!
Oops, my mistake. I have a layer cake, not charm pack like stated earlier. Here are some pics of the ones I have made, they are 2" hexagons and, like ya said, do take forever to whip together it seems. LoL! I also have a pic of my inspiration, hand-pieced by grandma many years ago. Hers are very tiny, finishing at 1" a side. Also, added pic of the fabrics I think are just screaming GFG at me that I also mentioned earlier. Thanks for letting me post these in your thread, and for all your help.
