Grandmother's Flower Garden Mystery

2 Attachment(s)
I found a shoebox of hexagons several years ago at a flea market. All the hexagons were cut from what appears to be vintage fabric (feedsack). The solid white hexagons are cotton sateen. I am trying to figure out how the quilt was originally intended to be completed. There are (6)3 ring flower blocks completed. There are also several flowers of the plain white (2 ring) completed. In the shoebox I have 50+ packages of cellophane wrapped hexies. Each package seems to complete 2 of the flower blocks. The plain white rings somehow connect the flower blocks, but I can't really seem to set it up correctly. This will become my traveling quilt project and I have lots of flower blocks to construct before I must set them together. I just can't see the big picture. Any ideas?

Aren't you lucky! Interesting having that little white one, haven't seen it in settings so did a google image search & will post the result here and maybe something there will be what you need.

i did a google image seach which shows many different layouts http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gs_nf=1&cp=24&gs_id=3u&xhr=t&q=grandm other's+flower+garden+quilt&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw. r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=999&bih=603&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=e9lgT_WaEMH22A Xg2dWlCA
i think it might be like this one http://www.google.com/imgres?q=grand...Sjq2pBQ&zoom=1 - you have to add some white ones between the colored ones when putting it together

eta: i see thimblebug was doing the same search while i was busy looking through the results :)

Oooh, Thimblebug & QuiltnNan, I never thought to Google GMFG.....what lovely results!

Dear Bettyboop, there are so many ways to put the hexagons together....maybe the maker planned to make a white "path" or "stepping stones" around the blossoms and use the small flowers for joiners. Maybe they were going to help fill the sides/edges. I hope you will let us see what you decide.

Maybe QuiltnNan was right, Maybe the person wanted to alternate white and regular squares, or maybe the quilter just did not understand how the pattern is usually done.

I LOVE hexgon shapes, in fact I just put all my spices in little hexagon jars and attached them to the fridge with magnets ! looks like a little bee hive :)

OMG-I have been making my GFG (it is my travel project) and making flower after flower, and making connecting hexes in solid white, but don't have a CLUE how I was going to put it all together, nor how many flowers I need. I have well over 30 and started making the white hexes. I think I had better decide on a design so I can see where I am at!!! BTW, Bettyboop, what a lucky find!! They are lovely!!

What a find and what a lot of work. It will be lovely when it's finished I am sure. Be sure to show the quilt when you finish please. BrendaK
