Grandmothers Flowergarden

Once I heard, that you can call yourself a Quilter, when you made a Granny's Flowergarden.
Voila! It took 3 years and 3 months of my life from start to finish. About the design, I used up the green in the center and didn't find this color anymore. From this point the way was the goal. |

great finish, congrats on being a quilter :)

That's so beautiful and unique. How big are your hexagons?
Lookin good. Lots of hexi's. They all fit together and make a good looking quilt.
Well done!
That is stunning!
Great job!!
Amazing, I will never be a quilter, no
Grandmothers Flowergarden in my future!!! |
Really love your design! I think I will never be a quilter either Maggie Sue!

Lovely! You have a stunner there!
Wow! You are a quilter! It’s gorgeous. I’ve been working on one for years.
I love your quilt, I see in it flowers and garden paths. Congratulations on finishing it!
As it happens I am starting to plan on making one, bought the pattern and I am choosing fabrics. thanks for sharing. |
Yowza....that's a lot of work.... Beautiful job.....zooooooom.....(that's me running away from anything hexi...lol!)
Very pretty, I like the arrangement.
Did you design it yourself? I love it! Great use of color! If you bought the pattern, would you share it, please?
That's amazing! But since I am not a fan of hand piecing little hexagons, I will never be a quilter. :(

Hello and thanks to everybody!
The Hexi side length is 0.8 inch. I didn't measure the whole Quilt but already used it and it is big enough. There is no pattern for this design. At first I wanted to make a plain or traditional Flowergarden and started with the center flowers. I did not realize how much fabric this all takes and ran out with the green colour fabric. Then I wanted to stop and make it a wallhanging. Then I was unsure about all and put it away. And then I started to play with the Hexagons, tried many kind of edges, piced and cut off again, till I liked it. I could imagine that maybe one day I start with a new Flowergarden. |

Wow! That's very impressive. Fantastic job
Beautiful!!
What a gorgeous, striking design! Congratulations on this beautiful quilt! Was worth all the hours.
Fabulous - so pretty - I love your design! I'm making my first one - and it is quite the task, I'll say! But hopefully someday I'll have it done. Thank you for sharing your hard work! It is beautiful!
I have nothing but praise and respect for you. My only GFG quilt was my very first, and it became a table cloth because my fingers were so sore doing it by hand. Yours looks done. Nice work and skill. Applause! Applause!
Beautiful and you are an accomplished quilter. I have been thinking of taking on a hand project. Can you give hints on how you put the three layers together with the binding. Not a whole lot on binding grandmothers flower garden on the internet.
Beautiful quilt. I would have gotten tired of doing so many hexies a lot sooner than this. Great job. I’m very impressed.
It's beautiful. I made one as well.. BUT next time, I'll be using Marci Baker's strip sets method. She has a youtube on how she does it this way.
I've become lazy in my old age. |
Thanks everybody!
About the binding, I simply applied the hexagon edges of the last row on a fabric stripe to get a straight line. And then I did the binding as usual. |
Congratulations!! You took on a task I wouldn't want to. I hand quilted on for a friend a long time ago, that let me know I don't have the patience for these. They are beautiful when completed though.
Great finish! Very clever design and colors.
You did a wonderful job on that!
I started one last Fall but since the weather has gotten nice I haven't touched it. It's not big enough so I'll pick it up again. I love doing handwork at night. Love yours! |
Very nice...thanks for sharing.
I really like all the color changes, which makes it so interesting. Great job.
Wow!
I love it |
