Here is a drawing of a quilt I'd like to make for my grandson. If I do it right it will be an optical illusion. I will start on it after I finish the sunflower quilt I'm working on. I'm planning on doing it with strips; the original says to do it with HSTs. What do you think?

It will take some doing to get just the right fabrics but should look great. Cant wait!

I say...Go for it! Optical illusions are always wonderful. Perhaps it will keep your grandson warm and entertained! ((((HUGS))))

The drawing is one that I did for a quilt I want to make for him. He doesn't know he's getting one, it'll be a total surprise. Hope to have it done by Christmas, along with all the other stuff I'll have to get done by then. You know how it is.

That looks GREAT!!!
I think I would do strips instead of HST's. It'll cut down on seams, which cuts down on fabric amounts and makes hand quilting (if that's what you're doing) easier.
HST's would be easier piecing, tho. But I like to do things with the fewest seams, especially if it's bigger and I have to hand quilt.
Can't wait to see progress. Keep us posted. :D

I'm not a big fan of HST either. I've been toying with the idea of doing a zig zag quilt in strips and found this web site.

You may want to look at the Chevron pattern on quilterscache.com. I made one block for a sampler and loved it. That's on my list for a full quilt some time. haha. It was made with hst. I love easy.

It'll be nice! Is that Seminole Braids?

I think strips would work out very well. Its a lot less piecing. It would be a braid quilt.

Oh my, I love it. I can't wait to see it.

I checked out the Bee Square Fabrics blog on the zigzag quilt. It doesn't look it would be too hard to make. Thanx for the suggestion.

I checked out the Chevron quilt instructions on quilterscache.com and I like it too. I'll have to give this some thought before making my final decision, but I think quilterscache's instructions would fit the illusion I want to accomplish and I can just cut the lenghts of the strips to fit what I want to do.

Your design drawing is wonderful!! I can just see this quilt all made up in the prettiest color combinations!! I am glad you are starting now, for a Christmas time gift. There is nothing worse than being rushed at the last moment. Please share pictures with all of us, as you start this project!! I can't wait to see how it's going!!
