Grandson's quilt
6 Attachment(s)
Hi Quilters, this may be photo heavy, but I wanted you to see my process. I made these a few years ago, before I found this wonderful Quilting Board. It is made from my grandson's old jeans, but a whole lot of others too, as it is queen size and made it very heavy. I made it before he married and then made the pillowcases and shams after.I had no official rulers so I used an ice cream bucket lid instead of cardboard.I did a satin stitch all around the raw edge of the jean curves. It took a Lot of thread-lolHis girlfriend then, wife now, joked with him about the light colored jeans that Were his at one time-lol-I told him the variation made it pretty. You can see in this photo with the quilt in the box, how much he liked and appreciated it.I hope you all do too.

I used to cut off my boys jeans in the summer and have no idea why I saved those legs but I did. Years later I made my grandson a quilt similar to the back of yours. I put flannel on the back. It was so heavy I tied it. He is now 15 and still loves it. My boys were born in 1962 and 1970 and jeans came in lots of colors. Lol

Great job, have one all cut out and waiting for me to start on it. Thought to stitch a decorative stitch along the edges or just inside the edges so it would fray but really like how your's came out so may rethink my idea now. I'm sure it took quite a bit of thread too and its pretty heavy I suspect. Looks like you added some sort of batting behind the red checked fabrics. Mine won't be quite a large as yours as its for a teenage boy in our congregation. Again, great job and has me thinking again on mine.

Thanks for showing us your process. I love the template made from the lid of an ice cream container.:p The pillow cases are the piece de resistance. Best grandma ever.

I did use batting on this but I think if I ever make another one, it won't be any batting. It is thick and heavy enough already.
