My great grandmother (paternal side) gave this quilt to my parents when they married. I suspect it is quite old and was possibly old/used when they received it. It was the first quilt I ever saw/touched and has always been my favorite. I used it all the time as a teenager. My mother gave it to me for my home when I got married.

I love how it is made with scraps of clothing. The simplicity gives it charm. My great grandmother lived in West Virginia during the depression. She died of lung cancer before I was born. Never smoked a day in her life. A very religious, thrifty woman.

Here's her quilt...

It amazes me to this day how they used everything like that and made quilts out of old clothing! Beautiful inheritance for you!!!

What a special quilt full of special memories! How big are the pieces in it? They look small! Lots of piecing!

The squares are 2". I thought I had seen all the fabrics used in this quilt, but I always notice a new one! I love quilts like that!

You have to really admire the resourceful women of the Depression. They really made ends meet and held the family together!

And those quilts were necessary during cold winters too!

Lucky us getting to buy fabric and make quilts as a creative outlet and not from necessity!

If I ever saw a treasure, this would be top on the list. I bet it's as soft as a babys bottom.

That is just wonderful. I have a quilt that I got from my Great Grandmother....don't even remember when. It is very ripped but I love that thing! I can't get over how yours is still together and nice. I just love old quilts, the one that Granny made me had all different kinds of material in it too. It's a basic 9 patch with small squares.

:)

How fortunate you are to have something from your GG. I was born after both my grandmothers had died, so only know of them from stories. My dad's mother did make quilts, I heard, and also her mother before her. Use the quilt, gently, and label it if it is not labeled, so your family will know how precious it is.
