Gypsy Wife - Sect 2

It's going quite fast!! Of course I can do it all day long if I wish (retired) and paper piecing (if you're used to it!) means you don't have to worry about seam allowances, etc. Oh, they are there! But if you sew where the seam is supposed to be instead of measuring from the cut edge it doesn't matter if the SA is slightly narrower or wider. Your actual piece will be correct. I'm just showing the special blocks without the strips of off white colors that I will be using.
Thanks for looking!

They look good.

Thanks so much for sharing this journey with us. I am loving seeing the blocks as you make them. This might make me want to take on this awesome quilt.

so nice, are you making the patterns yourself. I love paper piecing and would love to make my own patterns

AngeliaNR 05-24-2016 06:35 PM

I love this pattern. I find that I'm torn, though, between wanting to do it her way and making up my own. I love putting orphans and leftovers together to make them work; I'm thinking it might be fun to make up my own pattern with them. Perhaps I should follow her pattern for the first time, then branch out. So many quilts--so little time! :)

Yes, Grace I am drawing the pattern using graph paper, transferring it onto freezer paper and doing the Twiddle tails method to sew!
I tried the .pdf given for the Pershing block but it was too small by 1/2", so I draw up my own. :o

Very nice, thanks for sharing.

OMG! That freezer paper technique looks interesting...I will try that..thanks for the addy. Are all the blocks in this pattern pp, or have you just chosen to do them that way?

to whomever wanted to make own/use orphans to do a version of this...that's what I'm thinking too! Because the original pattern, as I see it, is just a jumble of blocks, colors...some on Pinterest have isolated, controlled versions.....

ManiacQuilter2 05-25-2016 05:17 AM

I am starting a quilt (New Leaves) that is PP but I am only going to do the sections that need to be done using PP for accuracy.

Very nice progress.

Kirstie, it is an addictive pattern and I enjoy working on the Gypsy Wife when I have time... But have come to a screeching halt since I have two businesses and summer is our busiest time. : (

mjhaess 05-26-2016 04:54 AM

Very nice....

Kitsie 05-26-2016 07:58 AM

Geri B, I chose to use PP for just about all the blocks. No ripping pieces of paper off when done and templates are re-usable. Also her seam allowances seem to be very narrow when piecing, so with this method I cut the pieces a bit larger, pp them then trim to 1/4" SAs.

quilterpurpledog 05-26-2016 08:16 AM

I think your blocks are very interesting. Is the whole quilt paper pieced, or are other techniques also used? Keep up the postings as you progress.
