Half hexies

1 Attachment(s)
Last week Jenny at MSQC posted a slanted half hexagon quilt using a layer cake and a large half hex ruler. I used my scraps, found enough to cut them from half of my 8-1/2" hexagon ruler and sewed them in straight lines -- much faster than figuring out the slanted lines LOL I'm lazy that way. the background is a tan, looks lighter in this picture. I had to trim the bottom to make it the proper size for the charity I quilt for. This measures 40" x 56". But I think some boy will like it, it's bright and cheery, and very few people. hopefully, will notice the top and bottom done match. :o.

i want to do the slanted one sometime soon. i will just lay them out as making them and see where i need more for corners. Love yours!!

Don't tell ... no one will notice!

Nice job. This will definitely comfort someone!

I liked her slanted one, too, but just wanted to get something finished. LOL There is always more uncut scrap in that big old box!

No one will think it should match

Love it, don't quite know how you sewed it in straight lines but it looks great. Thank you for sharing.

Great job! This is so pretty.... And, until you pointed it out, I didn't notice top/bottom.

Love your happy colors! I'm going to have to watch that video because your quilt is great.

Looks great that way!

As always, a nice quilt! You do such wonders with your scraps that no one would know they're scraps!

I like your quilt- the colors are great and will be perfect for a boy. Why do we always point out our mistakes on our projects, if you hadn't mentioned it not matching most of us on board would never have noticed. The recipient of this quilt will be so grateful to receive your gift he won't be looking for mistakes - he will just love it. I also watched Jennie's video and loved the look of the slanted hexies but was thinking how much easier it would be to make the rows straight. Sometimes too much thinking hurts my head. Beautiful job.

my exact reasoning for doing this in vertical lines instead of slanted. I try and steer away from things that make my head hurt! :D

Nicely done! I've been wanting to do something similar with my half-hexie ruler too. Great use of scraps!

You could call this one Cereal Bowl! Most boys love cereal!
