Halloween Top

This was a big disappointment, my friend wanted me to try a bigger version of the smaller tree, but don't like it at all, this is a no finish for sure.

QuiltnNan 07-05-2017 09:44 AM

i think it looks cute.

buddy'smom 07-05-2017 09:52 AM

Thank you, I just feel it's to big and the next border that is suppose to go on, not gonna fit.

I think it looks like a "cat in the hat" cake.

I like the witch that you have centered at the top.

I wonder what the effect would have been if you had used a solid color instead of the black background boo print?

Tartan 07-05-2017 10:23 AM

Looks cute but I don't think of a tree shape for Halloween. I wonder what it would look like in a giant candy corn colours.

Lilrain 07-05-2017 11:35 AM

Oh, it is fine! Just finish it for a kid. Even if you don't like it, a kid wouldove it.

twinkie 07-05-2017 11:55 AM

I think it will be fine but think the first border being a "solid or small print" orange and then the larger print border would look better IMHO. Good job.

I agree with Lillian, a child would love this quilt. :). Cute fabric!

lynnie 07-05-2017 12:35 PM

I love all the colors of fabrics. finish it, it's cute

buddy'smom 07-05-2017 01:06 PM

Thanks ladies, my dear friend noticed a mistake I made, I forgot to add my tree trunk??? DUMB!!!

shogan7295 07-05-2017 01:45 PM

I agree that a child would love it. Kind of a Halloween I Spy quilt!

BrendaK 07-05-2017 01:46 PM

buddy'smom 07-05-2017 02:35 PM

Thanks ladies, first to rip off border finish the tree trunk and see how it goes.

QUILTNMO 07-05-2017 02:41 PM

very nice!!!

wesing 07-05-2017 02:43 PM

Hope I'm not too late! Leave the quilt as is and call it Halloween cake! I love the quilt and think it's a lot of fun!

mrs. fitz 07-05-2017 03:05 PM

I was just about to write exactly what "Wesing" wrote in the response just above mine. I love it, thought of a Halloween layer cake immediately. Enjoy it, I bet it will get lots of fun comments.

buddy'smom 07-05-2017 03:11 PM

A Halloween cake it is. Thanks ladies you all made me feel better.

Jingle 07-05-2017 04:57 PM

A perfect solution. Very cute "cake".

pewa88 07-05-2017 06:26 PM

My first thought was that is was a cake, lol. I think it is cute as can be and a child will love it. I can see it put with other blankets for forts. (I have 9 grands and they love to use my small quilts for forts and hiding places.)

I was wondering that too, bear. It's awfully busy as it is and it "might" be a bit calmer and stand out more if the background was a solid or near solid black.

mucky 07-05-2017 06:51 PM

Somebody will love it. Background kind of fights with the rest of it.

bearisgray 07-05-2017 06:55 PM

I think the maker should leave it as is - it's a Halloween tiered cake - with a flying witch topping it - and - it is busy - but it does work in a Halloween sort of way.

red-warrior 07-06-2017 05:00 AM

I thought candy corn too! I think it would be better for Halloween that way instead of a tree. It works well for the
theme!

sue.ross.8782 07-06-2017 05:52 AM

Please finish it anyway. It will be a shame to leave it after all the time and effort you've spent on it. You may like it after it is quilted. And even if you don't like it, you can donate it to someone in need who will treasure it.

sewbizgirl 07-06-2017 07:06 AM

Glad you decided to leave it as a cake... the tree theme just didn't seem to go with Halloween. It's crazy and chaotic... just like halloween. :o

I agree you will like it better after quilting. Do finish it. You could do some really cute quilting on this... like an outline scribble in white to outline the edge of the cake and make it stand out from the background. I'd go around it three or four times without putting the stitch lines directly on top of each other, for that 'scribble' effect. Then you could quilt some scallops along some of the 'layers', like frosting on the cake. This could be adorable.

darlin 07-06-2017 12:11 PM

just bootiful

darlin 07-06-2017 12:13 PM

just bootiful !

buddy'smom 07-06-2017 12:21 PM

Thanks so much everyone.

ube quilting 07-06-2017 12:37 PM

Now, if you want to go cake with this a little shopping might be in order. I would look for some narrow acid green lace ribbon and scallop the tiers of the cake, just because at Halloween, more is more. It is a fun project.

marshaKay 07-06-2017 01:39 PM

Don't rip. Just appliqué a trunk. Sooooo much easier.

Boston1954 07-06-2017 01:46 PM

I think it came out okay. If you were to make another, maybe you could go a little lighter on the strips next to the tree.

javin22 07-06-2017 01:48 PM

You can send it to me and I will finish it. I think it is cute.

I think it's cute too, I'm sure a child would just love it. Finish it and give it away.

vicki reno 07-07-2017 03:42 AM

That is just so cute!

redquilter 07-07-2017 04:06 AM

I thought of a cake also. it is busy, not doubt about that, but somehow, for Halloween, it works. Any kid would love it so finish it.

buddy'smom 07-07-2017 06:16 AM

Thanks ladies.

grandmaemma 07-07-2017 08:22 AM

I like your Halloween cake. Very cute.

kaylfordsollimo 07-09-2017 09:20 PM

Maybe you could make it into treat bags for some children in your life.
