Halloween twister border

1 Attachment(s)
Just completed this project last night and now it's ready to be quilted. I'm undecided if I want to try to quilt it myself or send it out to be quilted. I've only done sid and it would not work well with the panel part. Would doing cross-hatching distract the panel? Is it better to send it out to have it quilted?

RedGarnet222 10-05-2012 08:16 AM

No thoughts about the quilting, but, the hanging is adorable!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 10-05-2012 08:21 AM

It looks to me like you could do some outline stitching around things like the hats, pumpkin, etc. You could SID between the sections of the panel even if there isn't a real ditch.

i agree with lisa. barring that, i'd do a larger meander before i'd do a crosshatch.

buddy'smom 10-05-2012 08:59 AM

It's so cute. Great job. Is the center a panel??

Yes, it's a panel

If it's a wall hanging, you don't need as much quilting as one that will be used and washed. I would quilt it myself. You can do it. If you don't do free motion, you can do wonders with a walking foot. I quilt all kinds of designs using my walking foot. Give it a try. You'll do just fine!!

Very cute, I would do a large stipple all over it. Just what I do.

Adorable!!! Thanks for sharing. Can't comment of the quilting tho.

Awesome, I made the table runner pattern that went with that fabric, love your wallhanging

Love you border idea. I just bought a small Halloween panel and have been wondering what to do with it. Might have to borrow your idea. Thanks.

No advice on the quilting. This is a very cute quilt, love the twister border.

kateyb 10-06-2012 05:49 AM

I would use invisible thread in the panel and do cross-hatch quilting. That is a fun Halloween print.

How did you lay out the blocks to do the twister border?

I found a blog with step by step instructions: http://bobbidinkdesigns.blogspot.com...llhanging.html

Hope that helps!

Man that is so cool. Have plans to do a panel Halloween, could you tell me how you originally laid out the border. I have done twister before but laid it out in pattern before cutting. Thanks!

btiny36 10-06-2012 09:09 AM

So Totally cool...great job all around

Love the twister boarder, thanks for th link on how to do it, I would do a meandor....take it to a longarmer it wouldnt take only about an hour for one to do it !

janiesews 10-07-2012 03:29 AM

Very Happy looking. Great job. I say go for it and do some outlining and meander in the border. Great job.

CountryHouseQuilter 10-07-2012 03:42 AM

I had two of these same panels and made wall/door hangers out of them with praire points top and bottom. I did outline quilting around most of the items. I did a meander in the middle portion. Turned out great. One for me and one for my Mom.

Love what you did, and love the border!! I have the twister tool, just haven't mustarded up nerve enough to give it a go yet.

calicojoan 10-07-2012 03:48 AM

This is just too fun!! Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I would probably free motion around the things in the panel, and SID the twisters. I love your colors!!

I agree. Stitching around the items on the panel wouldn't detract at all but make them stand out. You could cross hatch the twister border or meander on it instead.

This is a really cute wallhanging and the twister border is clever. I just finished a twister wreath for Christmas and used a double needle outline (echo) on the outside and inside of the pinwheels (it would be on your black border) using red thread and green thread. Maybe you could get a varigated green/orange to use in one needle and a light color in the other needle to echo and perhaps a serpentine stitch in the purple border of panel. Let us know how you finish it.

newbiequilter 10-07-2012 04:59 PM

You could also put extra batting under certain parts - hats, bats and shoes - and outline those to give more definition.

nstitches4u 10-07-2012 07:49 PM

I love your Halloween wall quilt! Sew cute!

heather1949 10-08-2012 04:42 AM

That is so beautiful.

marsada6460 10-11-2012 01:00 PM

This is just so darn cute! I did a Christmas Tree Twister, and outlined the pinwheels. It wasn't as hard as you'd think, and it came out cute. You might try that and outlining the hats, etc... Great job on this!

ukmuminusa 10-29-2012 07:55 PM

OMG this is adorable, was this a pattern?
