My neighbor stopped me in the hall and asked if I wanted to see the quilt her Grandmother made a long time ago. It is hand embroidered on flour sacks or feed sacks or muslin not sure. Here are a couple of pictures of it. The woman who did this work copied the pictures from her books.

What a treasure she has. I remember Mama and Daddy buying the feed sacks and using flour sacks. That dates me, but as they say, Those were the good ole days!

I always wondered if they used books to copy pictures from. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

What a treasure she has. I hope someone can fix the tear in it for her.

Thanks for sharing... Both of you!

It is pretty well torn up on the back, she is thinking of putting a muslin sheet on the the back to stabilize it and use unbleached muslin on the front. The top 4 inches are disintergrating.

Sewfine 06-09-2013 09:29 PM

Love it. I love vintage quilts. Hope the tear in the bottom right hand corner is an easy fix. Thanks for sharing a quilt from 130 yrs ago. Wish I still had my old quilts that was lost in a house fire many years ago.
