I made this from a piece of pre quilted fabric. You can make the pockets any size and keep all your things close at hand. Seam ripper, snips, small ruler, tape measure, stiletto etc. Just sits under your machine. It's really handy and a piece of cake to make
That's really pretty!
My problem would be putting them BACK in the pockets, I find things migrate all over the house if they're in my hand when I get up from the machine. |
What a great idea
that is handy!!!
I used that same fabric to make a tote bag.. I LOVE it( the fabric AND the bag ..and your catch all by your machine.)

I have one for when I go to classes that is for garbage! Threads etc. It is nicer than taping a paper bag to the table and stays in my rolling case and is always available! It was made from quilted fabric and bias tape edges and just folded up once. I also made them for my board at my guild at the end of my term. There are some great fabrics in the quilted fabric! And I tried to use fabric I thought match each board member's personality.

How clever! Can you share instructions/dimensions ?

can you do a tutorial for us on here and post under the tutorial section, thanks! |
That is very clever !!
Handy, dandy! Thanks for sharing. :D

Beautiful
great idea I need one for when doing arm chair/hand work instead of using chair arm and kids to pickup/fetch my missing goodies

There is really nothing to it. You want the fabric to be big enough to go under your machine and hang down over your table far enough so you can turn up the bottom to make the pocket. Slap on some binding, turn up the bottom a few inches (depending what you want to put in it and sew the sides togetherThen I sewed a seam between the two pieces of fabric at the bottom wide enough for the different items to fit in. I also put a safety pin in the back of one of the slots to make it shorter for a small item so It wouldn't disappear in the pocket. Hope this helps, I don't know how to make a tutorial

thanks for the information! great job!

great job, that is such a handy idea, i need one.
I need one, too!! I see myself making one soon as I gaze at the little mess around my machine, behind my laptop!!
I had a snow day today so I made one for myself this morning. I added a pocket for my large scissors, and a pin cushion. I have to add some velcro for the bag for scraps that are going on to the side or the front.
thanks for giving me the idea for it. |
It isreally pretty material and a good idea too. Does your machine scoot around on it?
No, it's quite thick, thats why I used the prequilted fabric. It's very stable and so useful. Everything at your fingertips.
Very clever idea - thanks for sharing
Think I'll have a go at this for the drawer next to my machine is a MESS with all my things I need the most. Thanks.
I like it :) You've give'n me this year's Xmas gift solution for all my sewing pals. Thanks!
Thanks for the instructions. I will be making one for my sewing area.

filled with silica sand (found at Michael's) (separate bag to hold the silica sand then cover sewed over that bag, and a scrap bag attached with a couple of straps to the pin cushinon, that bag hangs over the edge of sewing table. The top of the bag, has a pocket, that holds tye strapping from WalMart, and I got the tye strapping for free, (it comes wrapped around their packages or you could get it from any Home Depot or such). I just use a small plastic bag inside the scrap bag, makes for easier cleaning, then when it gets full just toss it out, and get a new one. I can take it to class, the pin cushion fits inside the garbage bag, so I don't worry about losing any of the pins, etc.. |
Great idea....I may have to whip myself up one of those. Thank you for sharing
