Hanging Quilts

3 Attachment(s)
I have hung some of my favorite quilts on the bedroom wall. The plastic boxes are my small pieces of stash. I have a few bigger pieces in the hanging in the closet but I don't have much stash. One of the pictures will show my little plastic frame I quilt on. I am working on a place mat.

Lovely work. Do you quilt the ones on the wall on that little frame? Maybe there is hope for me yet. Just don't have room for a long-arm.

Lovely quilts!

What a nice way to display your lovely quilts. I love the one with butterflies.

Are you hand-quilting in the small frame or do you use it on the machine? I hand-quilt in one of those...wonder how it would work on machine? Know you'd have to move it often and I think the thickness of the frame would be a problem.

all nicely done

great quilts!!!!

I do not sew on the machine any more than I have to and most of the time that is to sew the binding on. Once in a blue moon I will sew some big pieces like for backing on the sewing machine. That little frame you saw is what I use. It is so easy and fun and cheap! Any one can do it. My quilt stitches are not always the same size and sometimes they turn and it is okay. I don't make big quilts much any more but I have and it can be a bit cumbersome but once you get out of the center it is better. I can sit in my easy chair and watch tv and relax and sew. It is fun!

surrounded by lovely works of art. That little frame is so neat, small and tidy but can do everything a big frame does.

Love your wall art. What a lovely place to relax and reflect about how much you have accomplished.

My favorite is the Ornaments.

tessagin 10-07-2016 06:21 AM

Love all your quilts and that one on the bed also. They sell frames like yours at Michaels and JOAnn's. Your bedroom looks no larger than my bedrooms with the exception of yours being nice and tidy.

Just goes to show that you may need to spend money on fabric but you don't have to do that for the quilting part if you don't want to or cannot do so. My favorite quilt is the one on the left in the first photo. I think they are Chinese lanterns but I really like the way you have put them together and quilted them. Just beautiful!

Beautiful! Do you hand quilt all your quilts?

brandeesmom 10-07-2016 04:56 PM

Your quilts co-ordinate so well in your room. Thanks for sharing!

Geri B 10-08-2016 04:22 AM

How have you hung the quilts? Used poly batting
- lighter weight than cotton? Great looking.

Wow, great looking clamshells, thanks for bring that up lynnie, I like clamshells too. Would like to try doing something, but no one around here knows anything about how to......will have to research it now that I see that beauty!

sinceresissy 10-08-2016 04:53 AM

Thank you all. I was going to make an instruction thingie but I realized that sewing the clam shells by hand is different than sewing them on the machine. I did download a pattern from the internet and then resized the pattern to what size I wanted to make the clam shell. I made a plastic template and traced it on my material, cut it out and sewed them together. It is the same sewing technique as dunkard's path.

I quilt on one of those PVC frames all the time. I've done as big as king sized. I like that you can hold it in your lap and turn any way to quilt.

They look wonderful...
