Hanky block idea

Someone posted a picture of Saucy Senorita quilt blocks on Pinterest. It is done with a bit of embroidery, applique and an antique hanky. I drew it out for my idea file for when I have enough hankies to do a quilt.

Nice drawing and looks like you are going to have a great quilt with hankies. Please share your progress.

A generous offer but I think you should fold them away for your own hanky quilt. You may not think right now you want to do one but you may in the future. Hankies are also nice to make a baby bonnet for a new grandchild.

Getting ready to trace out my embroidery pattern using my Crayola light box and my Frixion pen.

One of my guild sisters made a very similar block as a wall hanging. Very effective.

A very clever idea. I have seen hankies used for the skirts of colonial or gibson girls before. It is nice to see the update. I have seen beautiful hankies in antique stores-some with beautiful crochet or tatting on them. Whether you take the offer above or start collecting them on your own, you have a wonderful idea.

Great idea......trying to picture finished block....skirt will be folded hankie, bodice, solid color fused on fabric (?),face, hand, hair, foot, shoe to be embroidered? Hmm, I have some old hankies somewhere too....

That will be beautiful!

What a nice idea. I have one hanky from my mother and I put it inside one of those clear Christmas balls for an ornament on my Christmas tree. Of course only get to look at Christmas time. Like what you are doing.

Great idea!

Well it seemed like a good idea but it really won't be practical in a quilt. I could do a wall hanging I guess. I didn't want to sew the hanky all down so a quilt is out. Here it is anyway.

What a lovely lady, I can see the hankie draped to make the skirt. Finding the right hankies these days will be a challenge, they're hard to find and tend to be packs of flimsy see through fabrics sold cheaply; you might need to find a fabric with bright Spanish/Mexican themes and make your own if you want a true Senorita lady. Good luck.

Very pretty skirt

Lilrain 02-01-2017 02:42 PM

Nice idea. It was a pattern some years back. I love it

Just my thought- could you tack the corners where you want them, then tack a couple side folds, then let the creases fall where they may? Might be real pretty...maybe use beads on the spots that you tack down?

ctrysass2012 02-01-2017 09:14 PM

Nice lady, Tartan! I also like madamekelly's idea. Maybe there is a way to do a small lap quilt.
