hanky lady quilt

Just finished this hanky lady quilt top. I was searching for a way to use vintage hankerchiefs in a quilt and saw this idea online somewhere but couldn't find a pattern... so I improvised and made my own. The ladies's skirts and the outer border are made from vintage ladies hankerchiefs. This was so much fun to collect hankies from flea markets and antique malls...could hardly wait to create the fancy skirts! Each lady took on her own personality. I used the hankerchief fabric in each skirt to make a matching miniature hanky for each lady to hold...will bind the quilt in the blue fabric like the sashing...now just have to decide on how to quilt it.

I like your quilt and te idea of the matching hanky for each lady is so unique. I love vintage linens; what a great way to preserve those precious hankies! Thanks for sharing.

Hanky lady quilt

Would you mind telling me where you got the pattern for the ladies? I have the hankys, but need a pattern for the ladies. Thank you for your consideration.

I am also interested in a "pattern" of sorts. I have hankies and have the butterfly pattern idea, but hadn't gotten around to really doing them I like this much better. My hankies were made by my great grandmother--time to get them out and do something with them on a wall where they can be viewed and appreciated instead of in the "hopeless chest" hidden!

That's beautiful! How about stippling around the ladies and maybe some vines and leaves in the sashing. Maybe stitch in the ditch the outer triangles? However you decide to quilt it this quilt is a beauty.

Great improvising. The ladies are beautiful. I love how it reminds me of the "old south" and the civil war era. Wonderful job.
