So I have been busy mopping up water, seperating dogs and filling in my spare time with a little work. The monkey's are almost done. The top is on the table, now I need ideas on what to do on the boarders and the rainbow.

I was thinking maybe stars on the small purple one, but the big one? I am stuck. I might have to run out for a bit today as well, company coming and I am not ready for it.

Plus I think I need to get some purple fabric.

this is almost done

My, MY, you have so many machines in there it looks like an operating theater!!  Her i sit with my little ole thread and needle.

I think that is sooo cute!! I would have to quilt animal shapes in the big area,
Of course it would take me a month to do so!.

cutebuns 07-03-2009 12:23 PM

I am going to try and trace the animals there, including the clouds in the main area. Though I could maybe make a template of the thing and yes, do them around or trace them as well, decisions decisions

chewboo 07-03-2009 12:28 PM

i agree with ninnie animal shapes on the outer boarder would be darling

different size pebbles might be cute good luck

Ninnie 07-03-2009 12:36 PM

When my grandson was a baby, I traced his feet and used that for a template for quilting. I did his hands that way also and it turned out so cute!

Ninnie 07-03-2009 12:38 PM

you could use extra batting and quilt around the animals and the clouds and make them stand out!
LOL ok, I'll shut up now!

cutebuns 07-03-2009 12:43 PM

I wish I could do that Ninnie, I really do, except I have no idea who the quilt is going to go to, it is a Project for

http://www.zebracentre.ca/

I started it yesterday with the wee one when we went out and I shose to bring it home to do on the big machine, I just not keen of trying to shove it through a domestic machine there. This way I can do it fairly well stress free, other than trying to decide what to do, which no matter what I would have that. I know I have some cardboard to make the template out, I have no idea where my chaulk is, (i don't have a disapearing marker). I am hoping the small local store has what I need, Otherwise it mgiht have to wait. I don't have anything else quiet ready for the table anyway, the purple fabric will have to wait.

PS, the monkeys are done and waiting to be pulled from the tear away

Ninnie 07-03-2009 12:54 PM

then what about just doing some cross hatch, it would be easy and look good and a lot faster! Also stress free.

I went and looked at the web site, what a wonderful thing to be involved in! And rewarding, i'm sure!

cutebuns 07-03-2009 01:00 PM

It was my fist time yesterday and it was a good time, there were two ladies there that were very helpful etc.

I am not sure about straight lines on this thing any more than I am of specific shapes. But it will be easier to find something straight to fun the foot along side than that shapes, I might just try both out to see what it is, I should at least do a nice template of a star to do the purple border in, I have a sizzex die cutting machine and I have a small star that I can cut out of fun foam and that should be easy enough and maybe do a few swirly things inbetween so I am not starting and stopping a lot, Color thread? In the center I plan on matching the thread to what I am tracing, will mean more work but I think it will be worth it,

Elsie 07-03-2009 02:07 PM

neat cute like them all

Mousie 07-03-2009 02:13 PM

cutebuns, don't have any quilting suggestions, but it looks great!
I don't think anythiing you quilt on it, will take away from it :D

amma 07-03-2009 03:53 PM

Love the quilt and your monkeys too!!! :D :D :D
What if you outline stitched around the animals in the big border, with free form wonky stars in between (the kind of stars that kids draw) it would be simple and child like keeping with the theme of the quilt.

Iluv2quilt 07-04-2009 03:52 PM

This quilt is awesome - I love the colors - what fun!!

SewinNancy 07-04-2009 05:41 PM

Thank you very much everyone, those are very kind words. Here is what I have so far. I just need to trim and bind now. It didn't take long especially when you consider that I used 5 different colors on it,

Darlene 07-05-2009 03:16 AM

I love that fabric

barnbum 07-05-2009 03:40 AM

Wow--what an awesome place to volunteer at--like making them quilts for kids! I don't know if the US has such centers? It's such a wonderful place--idea.

The quilt looks like comforting fun! I guess I'd keep it simple and meander the outer border because with that pattern and color the quilting will be hard to see.

I love this idea. I was just thinking, "what if you puffed up the animals & clouds" and wondering if it was possible, and along came your piece. Touche (sp??).

cutebuns 07-05-2009 06:34 AM

With that said, I am no thinking that I should have stopped and tossed in a little extra in those spots. Woud have made the pop more, The batting isn't all the fluffy, though it does make it stand out

stitchinMamaw 07-06-2009 09:35 AM

JUST BEAUTIFUL ! Longarm quilting looks like a lot of fun . Not in my future though . I have to say those are the cutest lantern lights in one of your pics ! I've never seen those before . Annie

cutebuns 07-06-2009 11:17 AM

If you are looking in the US to do this kind of thing, I think there are people that do stuff for Linus, someone correct me if I am wrong.

The long arm is fun, anyone wanting to try, just take a road trip and come see me, I am open to others playing with it. It is a shame that it has to sit there waiting for me all the time.

The lanterns my DH found at work, he works at a sporting goods store, Wholesale Sports, they have all sorts of them there, I want a few more sets like that,

Kyiav10 07-06-2009 12:33 PM

Mmmmh, Beautiful quilt!!

Kyia

THank you everyone for your support and compliments on this, I am going to have to find a few more panels I think, I have more ideas that I want to try and see if they work. It is less time consuming to work with these than piece and I need practice practice practice on the big machine. And I hate not to have a quilt ro some thing that is usable afterwards.

Pictures like I promised when I was done, it is done, check one thing of the list of things to do. just one though, maybe get more done tomorrow,

Bevanger 07-07-2009 05:38 AM

THank you very much Bev, they are fun to play with, it takes a bit to get to know each of them, I am doing it slowly. I have had some longer than others, You would think that I could get so very much more done on them, not so that I have noticed, I want to do so much more.

cutebuns 07-07-2009 06:21 AM

I would love to do stuff for everyone that wanted something, even if it was a wall hanging, I am not even done stuff for my family, it will be a few years before I get that far in my work,

Ducky 07-07-2009 06:21 AM

CB, your quilt is just one of the cutest I've seen. Your decisions on the quilting patterns were really very good.

I want a long arm very badly.....did it take you long to learn? You have a great set-up there.

It really didn't take long to learn, I didn't even get a demo on how to thread it, there is a book etc on it. Though it is a sewing machine, how hard can it be to thread? THere are still little things that I am learning, I will probably be learning little things for quiet a few years on it. THe biggest thing is to relax when working the machine, it will flow so much nice. I have a couple of books, for machine quilting, some cover both the small and long arm, the biggest difference is that I move the machine instead of the fabric. I had to watch the dvd a few times to be okay at loading everything up, now that I have done it a few times I can do it no problem, I remember what side goes up and what side goes down, what piece goes on what bar. It is pretty simple after you have seen it a couple of times. and now it is a matter to figure out how to get it to do all the pretty stuff I see everyone else doing. Practice, practice paractice. There is some to remember when doing it, making sure that you pull up the bobbin thread a tthe beginning, making sure you pull the bobbin thread up at the end to snip it so you are not dragging it everywhere, where I can leave the end if I want to continue after moving the quilt up. I didn't do to bad doing the tracing. I have so many more ideas. I want to try them all.
