I have a customer who has commissioned me to make her a number of Harley Davidson t-shirt quilts in the past year. The quilts are then donated to a group named Bikers Against Diabetes, or B.A.D., and are auctoned or raffled off to raise money for diabetes research. The first one was raffled off at $10 a chance and raised over $1200 here at the B.A.D. ride in Arizona in Oct. 2007. The 2nd quilt was auctioned off for $1500 at the B.A.D. ride in Southern California in May of 2008. The third one will go to the B.A.D. auction held this coming Sat. here in AZ. I'll report back with the results next week!
Here are pics of the third quilt! |
Cool! You did a great job, for a good cause too. Congrats on the fund raising. :D
I like the way to appliqued the logos. Wish I had thought of that when I did my daughters Harley quilt. Congratulations on the charity auctions. It feels good to be a part of a good cause.
Great. I have some Harley T-shirts that were my DH that he out grew. I just never got around to make him one yet.
AWESOME quilt :D
You did a great job-I am sure it will raise a lot of money, too. Great cause!
That's so cool!!!!! I have a "favorites" bookmark folder here on my computer for Harley t-shirt quilts because my husband wants one BAD. LOL!!
Awesome

DON'T show my BF!!!! Very nice. I can see why they raise so much money.

Great looking quilt!
That is a very cool quilt! Nice job!!
Oooo, excellent job!!
That gorgeous quilt puts my t-shirt quilts to shame. I love the appliqued logos.
I have never seen such an awesome t-shirt quilt. Can you give some tips on how you applique t-shirts? Thanks.
Me too. I have never learned to applique the right way.
Oh WOW! Applique would be so much easier than sewing and sashing. I never even thought of that and I used to applique things onto tee shirts and sweatshirts all the time. Did you use Wonder-Under?
This is why this board is so great. So many ideas to draw on. Thanks for the pictures. |
Thanks for all the nice compliments! :-)
I need to clarify how the quilt was put together. It isn't appliqued. Each of the t-shirts has the Harley-Davidson logo screen printed on it. What I did was iron the interfacing on the back side of the front part of the t-shirt, cut the t-shirt so I had a 15 1/2" block and then sewed sashing strips around each one. I hope I am explaining this correctly! It was actually pretty easy and no applique was involved. Please let me know if you have any more questions! I would love to help you all! There is an explanation over in the Main section under Anybody done a t-shirt quilt??? HTH! |
I promised to let everyone know how the Harley Davidson quilt did at the BAD ride auction! I had a phone call yesterday from the lady that had me make the quilt and she had great news! The quilt was auctioned off for $1350 and all proceeds went to diabetes research! :D
That is WONDERFUL news!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!
What great news. And to think you had such a great part in it. Congratulations.
