I started the quilting on the log cabin quilt. I'm going to give this to a man-friend and wanted it quilted instead of tying it. It's been a couple of years and the first few feet were not as even as I would like but, they're on the first row of the log cabins so it doesn't show as much :D
I did the first row of strips first because I wanted to lock it in place from edge to edge before I started on the border. I can't find the thimble that I loved and I didn't find one like it at the store so I got a standard one with a flat end. It's not working for me. The one I had was beige and it was open on the top where your fingernail would be. It had a lip on the end like a fingernail and a little groove/hole for the needle. It was like using my fingernail. I'm using my fingernail now. I'm going to have to look again and get some more types to see what feels right. |
That's gorgeous... I'm going to have to have a go at hand quilting some time, it sets it off perfectly.

The quilting is great! I love it!

Your stitches look perfectly even to me! This is a gorgeous quilt!

Great job on the hand quilting!

Great looking job so far, I'm sure it'll be beautiful when done.

I think its looking great so far Pam! Try Clotilde for that thimble...thats the same kind I use and I think they have it there.

It's feeling better and getting into the rhythm. I have two repeats of the stencil done on the border. I have read that especially when going back to continue quilting something you haven't worked on in awhile that you should do some practice to get your stitches the same as the previous work.
I looked at the thimbles at Clotilde and they didn't have it. Another board member has so generously offered to send one she has and doesn't use. It's a good design for people with long fingernails too (mine aren't) because your nail isn't covered at all. |
Your quilting looks great! Can't wait to see it finished!
