I'm on a list that this quilt link came through. I thought it was so pretty as I'm partial to hearts., even though I still think it's a odd name for a quilt block. I'd give ya'll the link, but they McCalls Quilting took it down as they're redoing their website. You can go over here and watch Eleanor Burns make it.. http://www.quilterstv.com/?bcpid=131...tid=1438428749
I made up a template and after a couple of tries got the heart to meet in the middle. Hearts and Gizzards |
So cute, but where are the gizzards.
|
what a pretty little piece and you did sooo good on getting it all matched up :D
I agree it isn't a very pretty name for something that gorgeous! Great job  |
I just watched that video today. Yours is beautiful! I have to put that one on my list. How did you figure out the heart template?
|
Pretty, i love the way the quilt stitching "echoed" outwards for the hearts.
|
Very nice.
|
Beautiful work!! :D :D

Would love to know how you managed to line up all the hearts in the centre. Tisha |
Very nice! I love it!

Oh very pretty! I love the names of some of the old time blocks.
|
Beautiful little quilt! In France, we eat gizzards fried on a salad, only they call them 'gésiers' which sounds much nicer! So - 'Coeurs et gésiers'? sound prettier!

I just love that block and wow, you did a great job with your quilting..very nice!
|
Very Pretty but I don't get the gizzard part.
|
Have done some googling - it's also known as Dutch Windmills http://www.justitdist.com/quiltinaday.htm or the Dutch Rose http://www.troymessenger.com/news/20...er-museum-ala/ scroll down!
It appears here in alist made by a girl who had to make 100quilts before she was allowed to marry! But I can't find any specific info on why it's called gizzards - I can only assume that the negative shape left by the heart looked to someone like a gizzard! :D k x |
Very nice!

I saw Eleanor do it on her show... Also Kaye Woods... It looked easy enough. I sure like yours. Great Job!

well, I don't eat gizzards...I have....but hubby's family loves them...fried or in chicken and rice...will stick a fork in a hand that reaches on their plate......go ahead, won't be mine, lol!
So, K, you eat those gizzards in your salad? just wondering. I don't think they are gross, just chewy and no flavor, but why would anyone want to name their quilt that? eccentric I guess. I probably would have thought twice before clicking too, but knowing me?...I probably would have just to see, what goes by that name? :D |
Tuesy you sure did an excellent job on it!! I love the quilting too.
|
That's really cute...love it.....:-)

I could learn to like gizzards and you could help me with my crazy patch stuff, and I could show you my cave etc. :D |

K x Someday I'll get pics and get computer geek brother to help me post. I used to be a little embarrassed by all my toys, but you guys would just love them. forgot 4 x 8 pegboard on wall, oh and three more sets of shelves with shoe boxes with fat quarters, scraps, more books. Oh, I have left out tons of shelves...not bragging,....sharing. It's a quilters dream world in there. Lot of it, was given to me...blush, lot of it was bought too... :D |
OOOPS, back to hearts and gizzards...I forget where I am a lot, LOL!
:D |
Sound like heaven to me C - I'm on the next plane! (i wish...)

K x ...if wishes were horses... I hear you grandma!!! :D |
This is SOOO pretty! I love the pattern and especially your quilting. It really makes the quilt go from great to spectacular!!!
|
it is beautiful and I love red. I think i know why it's called hearts and gizzards, because when you look at two hearts, point to point...that resembles the shape of gizzards, lol

Thank you all so much for your kind words. I'm sorry I haven't gotten back here till now.. been a fun filled week.. NOT!!
I'd be more than happy to share with you the template I made so ya'll can make this too. It's also what I traced around to do the quilting. Someone had asked how I got the heart shape. I also do digitizing and I made a heart in Embird, then printed and traced it out. It wasn't quite right for my first try, but then I did some modifications on it and it worked.. Heart Template |
What a beautiful quilt!! The colors are so bright and cheery!!! Great job--think I might want to do that or at least put it in my book of things to do!!
