This wall hanging caught my eye in a magazine. I increased the size of pieces, so had to figure out most--using algebra/ratios. One piece--the rectangle at the top of the heart is off--it was too big, so I see what it did at the bottom where it looks like a butterfly--uneven. Rats. I've 100% run out of this red--so glad there was enough to finish these five hearts.
UPDATE: Borders now added. I had 2" red strips cut to add a third, but decided a red binding would be perfect. The way the original was--I didn't like how the actual blocks stood out from the background--the lights are scrappy, but I made sure it didn't look like the hearts were distinctly different blocks. This pattern called for 5 squares, but I ah, made 30. It seems such a waste to toss those 1.75" squares for the start to the log cabin section. So--- more to come, but the rest won't look like this one at all--nope. They are scrappy, and there's a waaaaayyyy different background on the next one, or two, or three. |
Karla,
This is stunning! I would add a black/red braided border, then maybe a white on white... just a suggestion, purple |
really really cool!!! See- paying attention in Math class paid off! :)
(And they say girls aren't as mathematically inclined- you proved them wrong!) |
Those are so cute Karla!! Ok are you done with the others yet?
|
Just got back from Joanne's and they had some of the fabric!!!! I bought it years ago, I'm sure. It wasn't 100% the same--but no one will ever know.
Black? Oooo--neat idea. Melissa--give me time--give me time!! Pant, pant, pant... |
That is ADORABLE! You're such a smart ..............uh, well, you know
:-) |
Well, you got my vote. I love hearts, and what a neat way to make them. Great job!
|
Jackie!!
 |
That is so adorable Karla. You are so smart.
|
I LOVE IT!!
You did such a GREAT job! No way I would have tackled it if I had to do algebra/ratio or ANY kind of math combo. That just makes my brain hurt! But you did a GREAT job! You go girl!! |
Ladies, ladies, the math isn't that hard--two fractions with one unknown. Mulitpy, then divide and you've got it. If anyone is in a similar situation, let me know and I'll show you. I'm too brain dead right now to type out an explanation. I should go to bed...but my eyes aren't blurry enough just yet...............

Ohhh AWESOME...I so love red and white!! You did a beautiful job!! You always do!! Algebra...ewwwwwwww LOL Can I call you next time I need to do math? LOL
|
Very snazzy Karla! I love red & white - you did a great job :D:D:D:D:D:D
|
You remind me of me! I'll be working on something and then -- "Oh, look! Pretty!" and I'm off on another tangent! That's why I have several quilts in various stages waiting to be completed! You know that old saying "Love the one you're with"? That's me and quilts! Somehow finishing the old ones is not nearly as mucy fun as starting something new. I think it's the thought in the back of my mind that maybe THIS time my quilt will be perfect!
|
Another UFO is born. Great job love the hearts.
|
oooooooooooo pretty.
|
There. Done. :D
|
Great job! This is fantastic!
|
Karla-I "heart" your hearts! What a neat idea for a quilt. Fun pattern!
|
That a keeper , really cute :D
|
I've decided this one needs custom quilting--so, even though it's small, I'm going to have my quilter do it. She'll light right up to have one that's not an overall design. :D The original pattern (much smaller) was quilted in red thread, but I don't think I can go there. You think white?
|
I think white. Red would distract from the hearts.
Purple |
I agree with purplemem...white
|

Great quilt Karla. I love the use of the log cabin design to make the hearts. That is right up your alley isn't it?? Can't wait to see it quilted!
|
That is right up your alley isn't it?? I have plans--some day--to make very scrappy hearts. The red was okay--but it doesn't fit my house at all. Sooo, I decided to make table runners of 4 hearts--two in each direction. That way I'll put it out for Christmas...because I'm Danish (half) and they remind me of the Danish hearts we hang on the tree. That's wny the pattern/colors caught my eye from the beginning. |
I can't wait to see it all quilted.
IS IT DONE YET??? ;) |
Terri--this one is going to the quilters. I try the ones I make into table runner though. This one needs custom quilting... then I'll sell it, unless my dad--the Dane--wants it. :D
I shudder to think what my quilting would look like on this--way too much white...  I like to hide my quilting in dark fabric with matching thread. |
You haven't sent it to her yet? Come on, time's a wastin' :)
|
Well--once I turn the UFOs into CFPs (completely finished projects) I want to start another small quilt that will have to go too--so I'll wait until I have 3 pieces to take.
Patience, my dear. |
I dont have any patience!
|
very pretty a neat log cabin style I'm anxious to see your scrappy ones
|
very nice heart blocks.....
|
Turned out terrific, great job and thank you for sharing
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
