I think this has some real potential. I think it will evolve and change as you add more blocks and the patterning comes out. I did some FMQ a while back with a new motif I had seen. I kept stitching this motif and ripping it out and stitching and ripping because I didn't like the look. I finally decided I would just keep going with the design. It was a charity quilt so part of this was also practice for FMQ. the design was sensational when all the parts were put together and the design flowed. I learned a lesson- sometimes you have to wait to get the full effect. This should end up being a beautiful quilt!!! Post the pics when it's done.

I actually think it is very pretty. Try to put your mindset into the joy of doing it for someone who is really going to appreciate all of your hard work. Good luck!

Well, it's very pleasing to my eye.

But if I you want my 2 cents (which you didn't ask for), I would switch out that green fabric for a stronger, more solid one. It blends a bit too much into the patterned batik, and it's just not providng enough contrast.

See the green in the larger patterned piece in the NE quadrant....that's the kind of green I'm talking about. Which is the same color your sister picked out, but you just need to find a better match.

The 2 other fabrics are FABULOUS!

I say put on your rose colored glasses & go for it - as you add more blocks it will evolve into a stunning piece. Use it as a walk down memory lane - for every block you start, think of some kind act your sister did for you over the years & 'meditate' on that thought as you complete the block.

What if you added a solid (or solid looking) piece into the block.
Finish 2 or 3 both ways and show those to her.
I have done quilts that I didn't think looked good together, but it was just what they wanted and they are very happy with them.

Scan the picture into a program so you can repeat it over and over to see how the entire quilt will look. You can show that to your sister to give her the chance to see if it will be too busy when it's Huge.

If she still loves it...feel honored that she treasures your ability and skills to make something so nice for her. Put her picture next to your machine and say over and over, I love you Sis...I really do Love you.

Since it's being made with love, it has a beauty beyond compare.

BTW...I really think it's cool.

I think your sister has great taste in fabric. That is beautiful.

I just made a pink and orange quilt for someone. I am not crazy about those two colors but since it wasn't for me I just made it.
