Yep! What they said. Cathedral windows. Great pattern that I hope to not always be too lazy to do.

MDMPanther 06-04-2011 07:17 PM

Yup...CW!!

sgponsler 06-04-2011 07:22 PM

is there a place to help find replacement fabric so she can finish the quilt her mom started before she passed?

Murphy 06-04-2011 08:37 PM

The pattern is cathedral window. Are you asking about the fabric inside the windows?

It can be done by machine

Cathedral Windows, have fun

lots of free patterns online for it

ctack2 06-04-2011 09:12 PM

If she can't find that exact fabric, she can always use the part that is done as the center of the quilt and add on around the edges until it is big enough.

I agree with the guesses so far - Cathedral Window.

Well, here's a tutorial on this board:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-35742-1.htm
This one is machine stitched.
There are various methods for creating these, so you may also need to do some research on the internet.
If you are adding blocks, I would carefully take one apart to determine the size of the backing square and the method used. Good luck.

yes, she has been trying to locate the fabric that is in the center of the pattern. her mother started this quilt and didn't finish it before she passed and so my friend wanted to try and find replica fabric. thanks so very much for everyone's help

Cathedral Window

Did her mother have a stash? I could start by looking through all the fabric that she had. If it still can't be found maybe list this picture on http://www.missingfabrics.com/gallery.asp?PageNo=1

If the fabric still can't be found why not add in other 1930 fabrics to the quilt! There are TONS of red 1930 repros out there.
