Help in identifying a quilt pattern

2 Attachment(s)
Hello. This is my first post, so I hope this board is the appropriate place to post this question. I am creating a surprise book for my grandmother of all the quilts she has made. I have identified all the patterns except for one. Pictures are attached.

Does anyone know the name of this pattern? It has a diamond in the middle and then lots of triangles, small squares in the corners, too. It is a nine square pattern.

Thank you!

It looks like a variation of the quilt block "Gettysburg"

Grandma Bonnie 01-22-2013 01:28 PM

It's a beautiful quilt. I don't know the answer but I'm sure someone will! It's a treasure!

Jingle 01-22-2013 01:42 PM

No clue here, beautiful quilt. Your idea is great.

erstan947 01-22-2013 01:47 PM

http://mageez.org/larger_quilts_vari...d_saucers.html It is close to the pattern (cups and saucers) in the Kansas City Star Quilt Pattern Collection. The square in the four corners are the only real difference

Funny, I just got an e-mail with a block of the day that is so very similar! Here's a link:

Sorry I can't help just wanted to say it's a beautiful quilt!

mighty 01-22-2013 05:14 PM

Helen S is sure correct that is awfully close!

Annz 01-22-2013 05:16 PM

Wow that is beautiful but is so close to a few other blocks.

EasyPeezy 01-22-2013 05:28 PM

Very close to Snowy Owl except for the square in square in the centre.

I sure do like it but can't identify it!! Beautiful!

Granny's girl 01-22-2013 05:40 PM

Thank you everyone. Yes, this has been tricky for me. It is so similar to so many, but I cannot find the exact pattern. The snowy owl is the closest I have seen, but that is still not it. I will check with a local quilt store tomorrow to see if they have any ideas either. Thank you for weighing in!

I love the design too. My granny only thought she would ever be able to make the Dresden plate pattern, and she has gone on to make so many different patterns over her lifetime. The book I am making for her is just a beautiful testament to her lifelong "hobby". Thank you for your kind words.

I just looked in "1000 Great quilt Blocks" by Maggi McCormick Gordon, where block 429, Illinois, looks just like yours except it has a solid half-square triangle in the corners instead of the small set-in squares. Whatever the block is called, your quilt is lovely.

Just idea as a gift, terrific job and thank you for sharing, but can't help with the name of the block
Have a Blessed night

This is the closest I have seen. Thank you nanibi!

Not sure what the pattern is but it sure is beautiful.

HillCountryGal 01-24-2013 04:05 AM

Have no idea the name of your block.
Though, I do recognize beautiful handquilting when I see it.
What a wonderful gift you are creating for your Grandmother. I know she will love it.

According to Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, it appears to be block #1669, "Puss in the Corner" by Nancy Page. I don't know how to post a picture from the book.

Sewcrazy12 01-24-2013 11:53 AM

Its a variation of the Memory Block on QuiltersScatche.com, because I'm working on the same block. I had to draw it out on paper, so I could make it like this pattern. I am also making a scrapy quilt. Good luck.

MartiMorga 01-24-2013 02:00 PM

I agree it is Snowy Owl, but with an added square in the corner. EasyPeezy has it right.

Auntie Em 01-24-2013 05:14 PM

Taughtby Grandma 01-24-2013 06:06 PM

Looks like corn and beans. Take a peek at the quilters cache and there are tons of blocks and see what you can find. Good Luck and what a wonderful idea. I'm sure your gramma is going to love it!

My message I was writing vanished..so I'll try again.. Mary Ellen Hopkins in her "It's ok to sit on my quilt Book" on page 45. has a bk. called " Old Maid's Puzzle" that is almost the same as yours.. Beautiful quilt you have made!

GeeGee 01-26-2013 12:37 AM

Without giving away your surprise, why don't you just ask her "what is the quilt she did with all those flying geese?" Then post the name here so we will all know.

Similar but not exact.

EasyPeezy 01-26-2013 09:47 AM

All the above variations would make a great quilt sampler, don't you think?
