I'm a black and white person when it comes to adding to bright colors. Black and white polka dots would be my preference but since you don't show that, I would go with the checks. I took classes with Freddy Moran and she suggests black and white to give the eyes a place to rest between brights.

I like the bottom left 1st & 2nd choice would be the top right.

I think I'm on plan B now, a 1/2 inch white frame around the blocks with a 1" black-white dot as a sashing. |
