help please mystery block
1 Attachment(s)
I purchased this UFO about 3 years ago at a country store, since then I have tried to figure out the pattern but no success, I have about 60 of the two pieces and a few of the others, can anyone recognize this pattern/block? I love UFO mainly because it saves me all the cutting, but this one got me stumped!

all I can say is just keep playing with it. I'm sure you will eventually figure it out. I like this kind of stuff too.
|
Just keep pushing the piece around till they fit? Good luck
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
The fabrics seem to be coordinating so why not just a scrappy quilt? I like the fabrics very much and if nothing else it will make someone happy when received as a charity quilt. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Sounds like it could be incomplete so you may never match all the pieces 100%.
I'd say just play with it and try to mix and match as many pieces as you can. Maybe you'll find a design that you like and go with it. Happy sewing. Show us what you come up with. ok? |
sure you have all the pieces?? maybe something is missing
|
Just looking at the large triangles, I can't help but wonder if those are scraps. Reason - if you take a 1/4" seam, the points (where the three fabrics join) will be lost, completely. The pieces resemble trimmed pieces of diamond strips, which were trimmed from a larger block/piece. Pretty fabrics; I'd also use them in a scrappy quilt.

Or sew all the pieces of fabric together .. square them up and see what happens
|
Do these pieces go back together to form a square. Maybe it was a "slash" type block.
|
I'm thinking these are trimmings - notice how pointless all the units are?
You could just put them together 'crazy quilt' style? |
I am going to print the pic cut them out and see what I can come up with. see you in a week lol kidding

Okay, I hope I can explain this. I think it might be something on the order of a one block wonder made with hexagons. Those big triangles should measure the same on all three sides. I would take six of them and put them together, with the diamonds touching in the middle, to make a hexagon. The smaller right triangles on the right in the picture, I think these are half of the larger triangles - they are used on the ends of the rows to make a straight side. The long skinny triangle on the top could also be used on the ends. If you put 2 of the right triangles together, short ends together, it will be the same size as the skinny triangle on the top. If this sounds plausible, you could use the assembly instructions for a OBW to put it together. Looks like it might be interesting!! Ann
