I bought these squares at an antique store when I started getting interested in quilting and forgot about them till the other day. What I'm wondering is they are hand quilted but very loose not sure what to do. I would like to use them but don't know if I should tighted up the stitching or leave them alone. I five blocks so I thought I would and more fabric and make a wall hanging out of them. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is the block front and the back stiching. thanks in advance.

It looks like that long stitch that was on the board weeks ago. I plan on doing it myself so I would not change the stitching. just me :)

its called big-stitch quilting, they look exactly as they should for that project. use them as they are, and if you want you could always add more other quilting. i wouldn't remove them they are done very nicely.

wow, trim the long threads off and iron on to the backs some light weight interfacing. like used in clothing patterns.
then you can trim them a bit and sew into a quilt top and quilt each block. good luck. |
LEAVE THEM AS THEY ARE WOULD TAKE AWAY VALUE OF THEM THEY LOOK FINE TO ME

You're talking about the way they're pieced, right???
It looks fine to me, as long as the stitching isn't too close to the edge. Love your idea and those are great old fabrics!! :D |
I would leave them as is. They looks like they'll be fine. What a great find you have there.

Those are nice. I would leave them as they are. Looks like they may have been washed at some point. After you put them together and quilt them it will help stabalize them. May have to block them first to try and get them as square as possible before sewing them together.
I like your idea of a wall handing. |
I say leave them alone too and work with your plans. Right now I have 6 large tops hand pieced like that, appears they'
re from the 30s/40s/50s and I've machine laundered using the heavy duty setting and so far they haven't raveled on me (or come apart). I guess they used good quality thread in those days. Apart from the tops, I have a good sized collection of blocks pieced that way which I've laundered and they're still intact |
