Saw this fabric and fell in love with the polar bears. So, I bought 2 yds of each. Now I have no idea what to do with it. Any suggestions?
looks like pillow cases to me ;-)
Cut the top one into a panel and use the other two to make different kinds of borders.
Oooh pretty stuff, it would be a shame to cut up those bears (I have a fabric that I am having the same problem with), could you make use the bears as a center panel and then maybe do some blocks as a border around the sides?

I see a lovely wall hanging with the bears in the center, small border of 3rd fabric, border of triangles of 2 & 3, another small border, then binding. I'd use the 2nd fabric for the backing.
I think you could design a throw if you buy some dark brown like the twigs to break up the design a little. I have a pattern that is called a BQ (I think) that uses large pieces I will go and see If I can find it for you.

I agree with grammyp. I would go that route. I wouldn't want to cut up the polar bears. They might try to fight back![/quote]
LOL... and I already have enough problems. |

Wallhanging or fussy cut quilt with the bears having pride of place. Highlight with the other two fabrics and frame or sash in rich browns and dark golds like the tree bark and grasses in fabrics one and two.
It's beautiful fabric. Great find. Happy quilting! |
Beautiful fabric. I'd definitely do the wall hanging and showcase the bears.
There's also a BQ2 for large scale prints. Warm Wishes also is a good one and you'll probably be able to adjust either pattern for the size of the bears, so they don't get chopped off.
Beautiful bears! You could do the bears in the center of a throw, adding some darker colors (browns) and make some borders around it. A wall hanging would be great too!
i saw a convergence quilt done with polar bear print. so cute!
I definitely agree, don't cut up the bears! Use it as the center. I would put three borders of different widths starting narrow in the middle and going wider for the next and even wider on the other. I hope you will post a pic when it is done. I love the fabric.
I would fussy cut the Bears into squares. Use the brush fabric and sky fabric for background and backing. Use Brown rusts and blacks and it will be a beautiful man quilt.
Buy some more of the bears (enough for six repeats) and make a OBW quilt. It would be very wintery.
I would buy two more fabrics, one brown and one the deeper blue/grey. You could use the bear as a center panel and make either 9-patches or 4-patches to border.
Why not use the big polar bear fabric as a center to a quilt and just add borders to make it the size you want? I did that with my grandson's quilts. I had some white tigers and the co-ordinating fabric as just of smaller white tigers. I framed out the "main" center piece with a dark green, and bordered in the bamboo fabric and the smaller white tigers. They loved them and my daughter wanted the last white tiger panel I have, but I am going to make my own quilt with it for my bed........and I have a queen size with high mattress.
that's what I would do........ |
I agree with others not to cut those bears-they are wonderful. Like center panel idea, then use 2nd fabric along with browns, golds, and pale blue for bear paw blocks around panel, possibly narrow border b4 bearpaw blocks, then borders after. Lots of good ideas from others here.
You could fussy cut out squares with the bears and do framed squares with the other fabrics sewn around.
I love that fabric.
Go to the Lavender Lime quilt shops web site in Chatt. TN. They have a quilt that easy to put together and it takes 8 1/2 inch block and has cool ways to sash them. Several in my guild have put them together with fabric they don't want to cut up small. I'll try to take and download some of the pictures so you will see.
The pattern is called Sweet and Simple. I am loading pictures.
I wouldn't be able to bring myself to cut up that beautiful. panel. Use it as a center for a wall hanging or quilt.

http://www.classiccottons.com/quilts...allhanging.pdf There are 3 different versions of this quilt pattern....from lap quilt to queen quilt. |
I'm thinking of making the quilt seem like you're looking out of a window onto the scene. Make window panes from the bears. Use a contrast for the sashing (I'm partial to black). Then use one or both of the other fabrics as borders.
