I like your quilt!

The hem guage brings back memories of having to stand still(!!!) so Mom could mark the hem of my dresses. Thanks for the blast from the past!

My mom had a couple of those hem gauges ... I wonder if she still has 'em stashed in a box somewhere? That brings back memories of standing on the coffee table while she pinned the hem! LOL! :lol:

The person who the skirt or dress was for put it on (sometimes with the shoes that were going to be worn with it). The "clamp" could be adjusted up or down on the ruler to the desired length. Then the fabric was "clamped" in between the metal parts, then straight pins inserted horizontally in those dents. The person wearing the skirt, turned slowly while the other person pinned. The row of pins around the skirt was used for the fold line to fold up the hem evenly all the way around. Does that help?
