Attached are the pictures of my Hexagon quilt. I love these fabric. I came upon a problem when putting the hexagon together. My cream /off-white fabric is too THIN. I decided that since I've already put this much time into this, I might as well make it perfect. I ripped it apart, found myself a better quality cream/off white fabric. Now, I'm back to the drawback board.
Here's what it looks like before I rip it away. |
Where's the pic?

Sorry, it's there now.

Oh, I like it very much. I am really into hex's right now, sense I am also doing a hex qult. Grandmothers Flower Garden. I think "unsewing" those hex's is more work than the sewing! Good luck on this beautiful quilt!

It is so pretty, too bad you have to rip them out, but I have done that several times when I was not happy with the look. Hopefully it will go back in faster.
|
Beautiful! I love those fabrics, too.

Thank you!!! I love working on it. It's just harder with a toddler around. I hope to finish before he goes off to college. Hopefully not that long. Okay, maybe before he start kindergarden.

for you hexigons are you using the thick plastic inserts that you wrap fabric around then use a long running stitch to keep the shape and sew together? The thick plastic inserts then pop out.
That is what I used in my icon piece. Your fabric choices are great! This is such a fun quilt top to do. I have so much trouble finishing the thing. It is still a WIP .. I need to add filler and backing then binding.. What are you doing about the edges? Love your piece of work ! Chairjogger |
I'm actually using paper piecing. It is very easy to work with. As for the edges, I'll let you know when I get there. I haven't thought about it.

Its gonna be beautiful when done. Please show us when finished

FABULOUS!!!
This hex quilt in the diamonds is on my list of "TO DO"--have already done the reg flowers in GFG so the hex is next.(Ohhhh, I can almost rhyme! ) Riley |

Chairjogger, are you talking about my avatar? (I was talking above about already doing a reg GFG)
I found it in a very old magazine. I enlarged it & counted each hex to make my pattern. Mine is changed ever so slightly from the reg one. The one I found did not have the flowers in the 4 corners & I thought it needed them to balance out the quilt? This is a very large Queen sized one.(almost too big to be a queen) If you were not talking to me, I apologize. Riley |
Oh Lulu
What a beautiful quilt, I remember back in the 80's helping my ward sister to make a hexagon cot quilt for her first grandchild, this was also hand pieced. She had about 7 of us sitting around the table at every coffee & lunch break going to help so it was completed in next to no time. :D Such a shame you've had to undo it, :( then again it would have aggravated me also if it wasn't perfect. Your selection of fabrics you have usedare georgous, so bright & fresh, where did you aquire them. What size are you intending on making it into. Please post more pictures once completed I would love to see the end result. Tisha, Nottingham. UK |
Very nice work.

Awesome Hexagons!!! I agree the fabric is wonderful!! It'll be beautiful when its done for sure!!! Sorry about all the ripping, but sometimes trial and error produce the best results huh.

I bought it a local quilt when I was living in Southern California. Can you believe I haven't found quilt shop around since I've moved to Northern Virginia?

Dear Riley,
Yes, I was talking to you. There are few variations of the original Garndmother's Garden published. I really like this variation! Thanks for writing to me. Chairjogger (Ellen) |
