So my DH comes home tonight and tells me he went to Sally's today (our nickname for any salvation army type store or goodwill). He said they were having a .49 sale. Thinking of some of the unbelievable fabric finds some here get I quipped "do you ever see any fabric there?". He says "I got a quilt". I get all excited "let me see!!".

So he pulls out this orange monstrosity below. Same fabric both sides no piecing and looks like someone started to tie it for about 10" on one end. Then he says "there is a hole in it". So I start flipping it around looking for the hole. To be continued...

OK maybe it will be a good car blanket

It was rip in the orange fabric and I can see it is not batting showing through the rip. I rip the orange fabric away and what lies beneath is this antique quilt. It is all hand pieced and tied. But it is in rough, rough shape. It had been cut down on one end. Stained on another end and many of the blocks have threadbare or are mere threads in some of the piecework. We took pics of a couple of blocks in the best shape.

I'm not sure if it is salvagable or not. I think it may be from the 1930's. Possibly older. DH got it at a Sally's in Vermont.

When I zoomed in on the print it looks kinda retro or vintage.

Wow! Cool! I have read that when utility quilts go ragged from use, they covered it kinda in duvet style. Looks like someone didn't like the raggedness and stain and started to do just that. After all, it would still keep one warm. The orange fabric if it isn't part of the old quilt and of decent quality could be used in blocks for a fall or halloween quilt.

Bless you hubby's heart, he thought he was doing good! He was!!! lol

What a find! I don't know what you would do with it, as I am not much of an imagination person. I have a bag of OLD pieces too. Got them in a mix I picked at a Yard Sale. Don't know what to do with them either. Looks like someone took the quilt top apart and tried to replace pieces that were too worn and decided to remake some of the pieces so the colors would match. I'll start a thread one day soon and post it to show you. I'll be looking for some ideas.
