I like it

I agree on the applique idea.
As an additional thought ... before you go to the work of quilting it, I'd suggest taking it back to your contact at Hospice, and discuss your concerns, and what others here have noted too. Families are having a difficult time as it is when at Hospice. Something like this could make it even worse. It'd be too bad if you went to all that work, and the first time it was used, it became a horror story. If Hospice has no concerns, then at least you have done your part and made them aware. On a similar note ... I finished my Passage Quilt for our Hospice tonight. Binding is made and ready. Just have to do the backing now and get it quilted. |
Oh man the two purple ones really do look like something from Hitler's rein. YuK. As suggested I'd put an applique of something very pretty on them. Good luck. Hope you find the solution.

Gosh and it's a simple rail too. I've seen other quilts , because of the color layout that look like this. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe it own't stick out as not eveyone will have it laid out so perfect. More crumpled. Good luck whatever you do....appliques are good. Little angels or birds...

If Hospice has some sort of logo, I'd applique it in what you feel are the offending blocks.
|
Can't you replace the one's that look bad , turn them or some thing since it's scrappy colors it wouldn't matter what you use. Not good choice of colors on those blocks ,the others have dark color in the center.when you use dark colors on both the end strips that's what happens.

The pattern was originally a good luck or good fortune symbol but of course, the connotations are different now. Perhaps you could put circular or triangle shapes in strategic places or overlap some vines so that they run onto the shashing as well. Then it would take your eye away from the swastika image.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I think I'm going to try hearts and perhaps a dove or two to distract. Spoke with the lady from the quild and she is in agreement that it's looks like something Hitler would make, and if we can distract from that then let's give it a shot.
I'm also using a poly batten and flannel backing, but they have requested that the quilting be on the loose side rather then something tight, which stiffens the quilt. They want them to be coozy. I'll post it when done. |
LOL...I made quite a few with the same designs before I realized that and they are going to hospice and VA
