Here are pics of my Circle of Prayer quilt for the solider from our church who is serving in
Afghanistan.

This is the original link to my question: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-33845-1.htm

This is the one that I had made a mistake when paper piecing, and had a tip of 2 triangles short. So, I had to patch, and since it is a splotchy batik, the patch shows.

I had thought of doing an appliqué over the patches, but am having a hard time thinking of the right appliqué. Someone suggested doing a praying hand to go with the name of the quilt, I suppose I could do the hands from the label?

I also thought maybe just the quilting would hide the patch seam, so cut the seam using the template I made for the quilting. If this would do it, I wouldn’t have to take time to do the appliqué and could get it off sooner!

I plan to make various size circles as the quilting, so cut my patches following one of the templates.

Sorry about the sloppy pics, but I just threw the quilt on the floor to snap the pics while I had the time. Looking at the pics now, I really should have taken a few seconds and smoothed it out! LOL

The label on the back is a log cabin block, done as Sunshine and Shadows, with the Sunshine being larger. One thing I learned from this quilt – don’t print the label till the very last second! I guess the year it was almost done is close enough! LOL I am only a couple months off.

I have written a long letter explaining the language of the quilt’s blocks to further impress upon him that we all love him and are praying for him.

My opinion. Leave it as it is. It's really not that noticeable in the pictures and once it gets quilted, it'll be even harder to notice. And besides you.....Who's going to know, the block wasn't meant to be that way?

krazy4quilts 01-15-2010 08:03 AM

I agree also, no one will know it does blend in . Very nice quilt.

Jingle 01-15-2010 08:09 AM

Looks great to me, I agree with others, no one will know it is wrong. You did a great job. !!!!

littlehud 01-15-2010 08:32 AM

I wouldn't do anything. Once it's quilted only you will notice it.

isnthatodd 01-15-2010 09:38 AM

I vote with leaving it as is. The soldier who receives it will have it hugged up so tight he or she will never even notice :!: By the way, I love the parts I saw.

I agree.. do nothing.. It's a lovely quilt.

feline fanatic 01-15-2010 10:09 AM

Same here! Leave it as is. In your picture of the whole quilt you can't even see the patch and I could not tell you which blocks have it. You can only BARELY see it on your close ups. I love this quilt as it looks now. No need for anything else to hide what only you know about.

Once it is quilted, no one will see it. We would never have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. Galloping horses. Your quilt its beautiful and will be treasured for sure.

Beautiful quilt and I absolutely agree with all the other comments. This will be a cherished quilt--don't sweat the small stuff :).

Thank you all for your encouragement. I think I will just let the quilting disguise the patch, and maybe I will be able to get a good portion of it done this weekend! I would really like it sent off, so I can work on the next one, which has a deadline of only 100 days! Of course, it will be hard to let it go. It is the largest, most expensive, most detailed pattern I've designed, the first time doing paper piecing, and the first time using Batiks. Sigh.

Geesh, in the other thread I looked and looked and never could find the mistake. I see it now, but it isn't something that is really noticeable. I would leave it and maybe do a needle turn on the edges, if you are worried about it fraying. Otherwise, once you quilt it down it should be completely invisible.

I love the new applique for it!!!!!!

gramadona 01-15-2010 02:52 PM

It's a beautiful quilt! And I agree with everyone that you leave it as is. Your soldier will never notice and will absolutely love it.

Maribeth 01-15-2010 02:58 PM

I agree, leave it as is. I only see it because you pointed it out, with quilting it will never be noticed.

As a side note, I made a memory pillow for a friend and I ran out of the blue for one side panel, I thought the diagonal line where I added the additional piece stuck out like a sore thumb, but gave it to her anyway because she was going away and I wanted her to have it, anyway, when I gave it to her, all she talked about was "The wonderful arrow pointing right at her little angel." She thought the diagonal patch was an arrow. :-D My mistake actually made the pillow more wonderful in her eyes.

I like the way it is.

You did a wonderful job of repairing this quilt :D:D:D
I bet it does disappear after quilting

maryb119 01-15-2010 04:58 PM

Leave it. Once it is quilted, no one will know. Remeber, there are never any mistakes in quilting........only creative adjustments.

earthwalker 01-15-2010 05:01 PM

I agree with the others...leave it...it is a truly beautiful gift. I am sure your soldier will treasure it always.

Clothfiend 01-15-2010 06:10 PM

This is a beautiful quilt and a true labor of love. Leave it just as it is. The recipient will NEVER notice what you find so obvious, but will love and cherish your gift.

wesing 01-16-2010 10:22 AM

I agree with the general sentiment here; leave it alone. Remember you are ten times more critical of your own work than anyone else ever will be. Your soldier is going to love this quilt, and IF he notices the patch he'll think it's supposed to be that way.

I also agree with everyone. I had to look real hard to see what you were talking about. You can also say if anyone asks that it is the original design. But my guess is everyone who sees it will love it.

adudek 01-19-2010 06:47 AM

I agree with the other posts don't sweat the small stuff. Also as a mother of a Captain in the army your quilt will be so much appreciated and loved.

Leave it alone. It looks great the way it is.
