How Would You Quilt The Dark Gray Sections Of This Quilt?

I posted this picture before under the thread, http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...d-t178061.html I've quilted the mini stars and spiderwebs with SID. I'm not sure how to quilt the dark gray section, though. I don't know how to quilt it so that it doesn't take away from the mini stars and the center spiderweb panel. I plan to do some FMQ in the outer purple borders, though I haven't decided which pattern to use yet.

Sorry I can't give you any advice on how to quilt the grey area but wanted to say I love your quilt.

I would put small spiderwebs around the stars and once in a while a spider.

I think I would do diagonal lines -- 1/2 to 1" apart depending on the size of the area. It would not take away from the spectactular design and might add a different texture

very nice!!!

I would do pebbles. They are subtle but also add to the texture of the quilt.

I love that pattern! I think I would keep with straight lines in the grey areas.

Beautiful. I would have to agree with Mim and Dunster, using straight lines. However I would probably take it one step further and do diagonal cross-hatching. Your quilt is beautiful and I'm sure whatever you decide on the quilting, it will only enhance it.

I agree with adding something circular....either the pebbles or spiderwebs. Well done!

Very nice quilt-The grey really makes that quilt a step up!! I agree on using straight lines-that would be Great!

do a lot of thread painting in the grey to brighten it back up, using dark purple or white thread, the rest of the quilt is bright and happy, the gray looks sad.

These are fabrics picked out for my teenage sister. She's graduating this year, so I wanted to make something smaller (for dorm rooms) and she really likes dark and light grays and purple. The other quilt that these scraps came from did not have the dark gray in it (since I'm not a huge fan of it, either, lol) But when I made this from the scraps, I needed to add in her other favorite color. It's actually not as dark as it looks...and not really gray, lol. It's a gray/purple speckled fabric. I just couldn't get it to look speckled on the camera or like it's true color. Even the purple looks a little darker than it is. I'm trying to quilt it in a way that makes it stay where it is, instead of pop out. I want the spiderwebs and mini stars to pop out to the forefront.

I agree - the effect would mimic the spider web "pie pieces" nicely!

I liked this idea, too, so I did this in the purple border and loved how it came out. I ended up stippling in the dark grey with a purple thread to match the borders. It doesn't make it fade to the background, but I feel it gives it a dimension of it's own.
