How Would You Quilt This?
2 Attachment(s)
I'm looking for suggestions/insight into how to quilt this, ie thread color, design, etc? I keep defaulting to blue thread that matches the border and backing fabric, yet it doesn't seem quite right in the yellow and orange fabrics. Would you use a different color/pattern in those areas?
I added two extra layers of batting behind the sails so they look like the wind is behind them, but should have added it before stitching the appliques in place. Live and learn, but I'm not totally unhappy with the result and can do some sort of colorful stitching along the lines showing through. Just a thought. Heading out of town for the weekend to help our youngest GS celebrate his eighth birthday, but wanted to post this first and will check back on Monday. Thanks! |
I would do swirls - waves and wind. I would use a neutral color.

Great quilt! I would use grey thread for the quilting on top & blue in my bobbin. I like grey as a blender color when quilting colorful tops.

No thread ideas, but a very pretty and cheerful quilt.

I would also quilt in some type of curves.
matching my thread to the colours for fabric.... |
When I can't decide on the color, I use invisible thread for the top and match the bottom thread. I would do swirls also.

Love your top. So cute! Ideal for a little boy.

I have used grey thread with lots of success when I am in doubt as to what color to use. Your quilt is beautiful. Waves in the spaces below the sailboats and maybe birds in the sky areas. The sails could be swirls, lines, whatever your heart desires.
