I'm using a heavy flannel sheet (almost a light blanket), tacked to the outer edge of the frame of french doors between my sewing room and the living room.
In the past, I've simply used the floor, but this is SO much better (plus I can leave it there) (PLUS the quilt inspectors don't come running through messing it all up!) |
Yes, design walls are great...sure wish I had a place to have one up all the time, but like you, I have improvised with a flannel sheet in a temporary spot when working on a quilt (pinned over a cupboard in my sewing room)

I couldn't do without my design wall. Well, truthfully, I suppose I could do without lots of my toys, but they do make life easier and quilting so much fun, don't they. Someone in my guild told me about her mobile design board.....she used a trifold (science project) board covered with a light flannel sheet and pinned/glued tightly when the board is opened. She loves it. Maybe you could give that a try for something that is easily moved.

In the process of designing mine and deciding where to place it. Nice job - enjoy it!

I'm with you............ love my design wall. Who would have thought a couple of flannel backed tablecloths could be so helpful with sewing. ;-)

yes, a design wall is a must have!

I love mine. Even if it is purple. At fifty cents a yard could not pass it up. LOL

I wish I had space for one. Currently I have some blocks spread all over my dining room table until I get a general idea how I want to lay them out then I need to move and lay them all over the living room floor!

I took flannel, measured how long I wanted the wall, sewed a casing at the top and put a curtain rod on the wall. I hung up my wall. I love it. I have yet to use it though. LOL LOL

I just hung mine up permanently on Sat, and I don't know how I survived not having one. The next step is a table large enough to lay the pieced tops on so I don't have to sit on the floor pinning on borders. Some day :)

Aren't they soooo handy :D:D:D
I love your quilt-in-progress!! |
