hubby made this ironing board for applique work.

When I work with appliques, my regular ironing board always gets in the way, so my hubby made this 18" by 18" ironing board for me. I covered it with heat resistant insul-bright batting and covered it with a cute scrap piece of fabric. I just lay it on the corner of my craft table which is beside my sewing machine. Wow, it has made things so much easier. This is the first picture I've posted since the changes, so I hope you can see it.

Awesome looking fabric. What a great idea. I never thought about the Insul-Bright. Thanks for the great tip.
Last year when they came out with this little 12" square for pressing small jobs and they wanted lots of money for them. I came up with the idea similar to what Sharon Schambers did with the large pressing board. I made a small one 12". I love it for pressing seams when piecing. Rumbols |
Cool It is always nice when hubbies support our hobbies. ;)
I was using a 'dorm' ironing board that a DD had at college, those mini boards with the fold up legs. Well, I'm a steamer and the board was just pressed particle board, the steam warped it bad. I recycled the the fold up leg onto a scrap piece of wood, 1x12x24 and made my own portable ironing board. :) |
Great board, wonderful hubby!!!

Oh he is a keeper! What a great pressing board and pretty to look at too!
great little board. what a handy hubby
Very nice, good of your Hubby to make it for you.
Great hubby and nice board.
Great idea. Saves getting up and down all the time.
I also found it to be so helpful and easy to have something small and close by. I actually found an small table size iron board at a yardsale and recovered it myself. Must say never thought to use the heat resistant material but it works for me. ;)

I have a wooden TV try that I covered with insul brite and a tightly woven piece of cotton,I also have a rotating cutting board I can use on it. Folds up for travel and easy storage when not in use. Works great for paper piecingtoo.

How wonderful: Great idea and Great DH. I need to make sometime like this - Thanks for sharing

So cute! I did the same thing on an extra wooden TV tray we had. Works spiffy!
great idea, I made a larger one that covers 2 of the rolling drawer carts, it's the perfect height for pressing
So what is that tool laying on the ironing board? Is it some type of "tiny" iron? I've never seen anything like that.
It's terrific! I love my handy little ironing board.
Great idea!
Very nice and larger than my press n cut board!
What a clever idea! Thanks for sharing!!
You have trained your hubby well!! How nice of him to help out!!!
boy the ideas I find on here just keep getting more and more creative. I never would have thought of an 18 x 18 ironing board That be great for those of us that work in small sewing spaces....thanks board!!
It's a little iron for applique pressing, and made by "clover" and available at Joanne fabric. it's a very convenient tool and much easier to use on tiny pieces than a regular iron.
Nice of hubby to help you out! Cute board!
That is a really cool idea.

A small ironing board is so useful! I made mine from the cardboard inner of a fabric bale from a quilt shop. They just throw them away when the fabric is all sold. I cover it with an old blanket bit and then sew a jacket on it. I've recently recovered one and added a handle to carry it to workshops and also a sleeve down one side to carry my long rotary ruler.

My hubby did an ironing board also for me. He put legs on the bottom so it fits on a wooden tv tray. I have this next to my machine and just love it. It's also the best for retreats.

A keeper for sure. Great idea.
Very clever and pretty!
