She is going to love this quilt. I really like the way the batik worked with the hummer. Good idea! And I really like the minky backing for softness. I give you credit. I made a couple of lap quilts with a version of minky....kind of a shag, and it was a devil to work with. I had to tack and baste by hand before I could bring it near a machine. Great work!

It's beautiful!!

The white of the centre just makes it pop out, and I love the sunrays behind the humming bird. Lovely quilt, and minky would make it so soft.

That is wonderful. I love to feed the hummers up at the cabin in the summer. What a great quilt.

I have been working on this hummingbird quilt for about a year. I gave it to my 82 year old mother in law for Christmas. She loves hummingbirds and has feeders on her porch and pinwheels in her flower pots, so I just had to have pinwheels in the quilt. I designed this as I went and it sure was a math challenge to get everything to fit. I used minky on the back to make it nice and soft for her. The hummingbird and all the flowers and vines in the center medallion are hand appliqued. I quilted it with a pantograph, but I did the medallion using free motion quilting - my first attempt at free motion. I wished I had tried free motion quilting before trying it on this quilt, but I ran out of time... I finished it Christmas eve. Thanks for looking,
I think your MIL must be very much loved by her DIL.. and that's a beautiful thing, too. Blessings |
